    Boater faction!

The low-crowned kind reminds me of Buster Keaton's porkpie. Does anyone know where the Harrow boys get theirs, and if they're available in men's sizes? -Dave

WWII Jeep in a Crate? Apocryphal? True?

I think you're confusing '40s Jeeps with '30s roadsters: Either way, it does look good. -Dave

    What A Bird!!!

A poignant story to be sure, both the human and animal aspects. Does anyone know where the remains of this brave little bird can be viewed? -Dave

    Vintage Phones

I don't suppose you know of a similar procedure regarding Automatic Electric telephones? I'd love to date my AE 80. -Dave

The porkpie-ish crown on the hat in the foreground is interesting. Is that a "soft" straw, I wonder? -Dave

Ah hah, it looks like an FTC investigation in 1930 revealed that the Stransky’s only real benefit is that installation forces to owner of the vehicle to carefully tune up the vehicle for power and economy! -Dave

I had to look it up. Fifty-seven miles per gallon in 1924 sounds a bit far fetched to me. -Dave

With approximately 4,000,000 Model A Fords produced, I think it's a safe bet that there were many more 1930 Ford roadsters running around than Duesenbergs or Pierce Arrows. I'll take mine with a Winfield head, carb, and camshaft; and a Ruckstell Dual High transmission. -Dave

Here it is on Holley’s website. It should fit in place of anything that used a standard Holley 4150 flange (including the Autolite/Motorcraft carbs that FoMoCo used for years). I think you could build your own setup using the MegaSquirt system, or buy a packaged kit with a standalone setup...

    Vintage Phones

I want to thank you guys for the responses, but I don’t think we’re exactly on the same page. The problem I’ve experienced with trying to use my AE80 with non-POTS systems is that there is insufficient current in the phone line to actually operate the ringer, or to power the old carbon...

Somebody (Holley?) makes a square-bore throttle body injection setup that should bolt right to a carburetor intake (or an aftermarket equivalent). -Dave

I love the cav cord! According to family history, my great grandfather (also named David Conwill) was an NCO with the 10th Cavalry during the Span Am war. -Dave

    Vintage Phones

Tom, Im somehow reminded of the scene in Back to the Future where all the clocks in Doc Brown's lab chime at once. They're not all hooked up to ring, are they? :D On a more serious note, how much longer will the phone companies continue to supply current in the line sufficient to power an...

favorite cars of the golden era

If it is true, it’s sad but unsurprising, given the blurring between high end Fords and low-end Lincolns that has gone on, and also that Mercury was rarely really anything other than a badge- engineered Ford or Lincoln. However, there’s a disconnect between the title of that article and the...

Ack! Say it ain't so! Sounds like it's Ford who is stuck in the eighties, not our B-Body-and-Panther-driving brethren. -Dave

Or was it that FoMoCo, like everyone else, wants to make their product more disposable and thereby increase consumption of new vehicles and undercut competition from their own used sales? That’s very interesting, I didn’t know that. Maybe that’s why in the ‘50s MoPar stuck to BOF for the...

    Show us your vintage home!

A carpetbagger’s house! Cool. The history of your house sounds a lot like mine. I wish I could find photos to go along with what I know, but the local historical societies aren’t very well organized or staffed. I wish I had more time to go through the newspaper microfilms at the local...
