This is an old picture, but I just cleaned my whitewalls this morning, so maybe I can show my face around here again:
My heap’s a bit new for here (1961), but my pile of old Ford (T ‘n’ A) bits is always growing, so someday I might have an all-‘32-and-earlier gow job to look at.
I like...
I saw this photograph on the HAMB today:
And it made me think of the Powder Room’s “Everyday Women of the Golden Era” thread. It seems to me that it would be beneficial to turn out some of those collections of candid photographs from days gone by, that we might find somebody to emulate...
My first thought as well. That and “It’s because pith helmets remind him of Belloq”. :D
Seriously, though, I’ve seen numerous pictures of working-class folk (especially farmers) wearing felt hats in what appears to be summer weather. It makes me think straw hats are something of a luxury...
See, I disagree. A secondary reason I avoid tortoise is that I feel the frames wash out against my skin, like they’re hiding. I dislike most wire frames and frameless glasses for the same reason.
I think a darker complected person wears tortoise frames better.

I don’t know about coloring, etcetera, but despite my general preference for earth tones, in eyewear, I tend to lean toward black instead of tortoise. I just feel it’s more versatile.
I’m eager to see how the browline frames look on you, as we have a similar coloring and face shape (it...
For some reason, this makes me think of all the bullion patches my dad brought back from 1950s Japan. There are definitely advantages to occupying a country.
Oddly, my grandfather’s handmade 1950s suits are all from Singapore.

Sounds like us. We are seekers of quality and style, not necessarily looking to replicate a particular era.
The colonial revival interior of our home is well suited to this, as that style has had periods of popularity in almost every decade since the colonial period.

No Nonsense!
Well, I’d like to be carrying my Sheaffer Prelude today, but it’s been missing for about a month, leaving me with just my Esterbrook SJ (which has become a real favorite), and my Waterman Phileas.
Yesterday, I pulled out a Sheaffer calligraphy set I’d purchased at a garage sale...
Alas, my home office is no more. My wife used her eminent domain powers to create a play room for the girls.
My desk has temporarily taken up refuge in the parlor:
After some reshuffling, I may end up with a ground-floor office in what's currently our den.

My two cents, which may be worth less than the name implies, are that a firearm wears out through use and carry in the field. Most vintage firearms haven’t been exposed to that kind of abuse, so they’ll be fine for modern carry.
I know I’ve said it before, but I’d love to pick up a...
That's right people! Consume, consume, consume, or you're a bad citizen.
Seriously, though, I will agree that there’s no excuse for buying (or re-selling) old baby-safety items. Car seats have an expiration date, and it’s not just there to sell you a new one.
On the other hand, lots of...
Hey, is that a '57 Plymouth? ;)
Very cool, I love the Forward Look cars. I'm especially fond of the '59 Dodge, and particularly as the Lancer convertible or hardtop; or a station wagon (the latter of which would be great for hauling the family down Route 66 or to the National Parks towing an...
Wow, that is a great looking suit. It reminds me of Jimmy Stewart's costuming in Anatomy of a Murder, which is where I draw a lot of my sartorial inspiration:

As I mentioned, after I ordered my stopper, I couldn’t find my canteen. Now I’ve found my canteen, but seem to have misplaced my stopper!
(Please excuse the half-done wiring in the picture; My dad was helping me to re-wire the garage, but time had gotten away from us, and now he’s passed...
I actually prefer my GEM Micromatic SE with Treet blades, but I do enjoy breaking up my routine with the aforementioned Gillette DE.
I use whatever the house brand is at Rite Aid (which, incidentally, is also where I buy Treet SE blades). They might even be “Rite Aid” brand blades...
