I think I already mentioned that I was not impressed with The Ballad of Buster Scruggs. The Coens are incapable of making anything that doesn't look great, and is uniquely their own. But this struck me as a nice chance for them to play in the sandbox of discredited western tropes... but with...
Just a little note for jonesy86 re his comment on the sizing:
I had an older version of this jacket I bought circa 1984, the pile collar and lining variation. (The same model at the time was available with either a quilted lining/plain collar, or faux fur collar/lining; with both variations...
I also once got a sale jacket from them - a $99 G-1, about 13 years ago - that was too small, which I returned.
This jacket has a Made in Pakistan label. No big surprise, Pakistan's a major leather jacket producer.
The cowhide is thick, with a heavy matte black top coat and not much in the way of scent. It doesn't have as nice grain or hand as the somewhat thinner cowhide on my (much more expensive) Schott 654. It's not gorgeous leather, but it is very tough and serviceable.
Construction quality is good...
I just noticed that Taylor's Leatherwear has a bunch of their older cowhide police jackets up as $99 closeouts again. There are less styles and sizes than last winter, but these things are a steal at $99 if there's one your size.

Good review FF, but you didn't mention the appearance of Charters and Caldicott!

I watched the 2017 film adaptation of Journey's End on Amazon Prime. It's okay if you are in the mood for another seriously depressing visit to the trenches of...
If you're in the market for an Akbura, HatsDirect has free worldwide shipping through tomorrow. I haven't bought from them in many years, but I seem to recall that their international shipping was expensive compared to the other Australian dealers.
Skip season two, it's pretty disappointing after the captivating fascination of season one. And each season is a different cast/story, so there's no continuity that you need to bone up on before watching the forthcoming season.
I know it's a push, but get yourself an Akubra, you won't regret it. Unlike wool felt hats that eventually fall to pieces in the rain - this is what will happen to your wool Scala beater fedora - Akbura's fur felt just laughs it off. I've got Akbura hats that look virtually new after 10 years...
My recorded-from-TCM feature last night was The Woman In White (1948), with Eleanor Parker, Alexis Smith, Agnes Moorehead, Sydney Greenstreet, and an impossibly young Gig Young.
Eh, though it's based on a famous nineteenth-century novel that's considered one of the progenitors of the mystery...
I don't think I've posted on this thread before... Here's something a bit different from ordinary home/office lighting.
My parents had a commercial photography studio for 50+ years starting after WWII. Among their specialties were b/w product shots made with 4x5 cameras and fluorescent...
I'd say the 654VN is medium weight for a casual streetwear jacket... but it's light weight compared to most motorcycle jackets. (I have the 654, the same jacket minus the vintage process, which I believe is the same cowhide.)
Alas, I've never handled an Aero jacket in person so I can't offer...
Another silent film DVR'd from TCM, F.W. Murnau's Faust. It was a bit of a slog, though with some great sequences and impressive production designs and special effects. But there are certainly more enjoyable deal-with-the-devil films that I'd recommend over this version.
Yeah, 49th Parallel is a great flick too... though Laurence Olivier's out-RAGE-us French Canadian accent (think John Cleese as the Taunting Knight in Holy Grail) may be the most embarrassingly awful voice ever performed by a great actor in a film.
And who can blame Crisp? I couldn't keep my...
Since it's apparently my function here to point out the writers/directors for FF's reviews, note that The Spy In Black is the first coproduction of the amazing Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger, who'd go one to make such masterpieces together as The Red Shoes and Black Narcissus. Any film...
Well, though I believe it was overpraised, I do like Logan better than most of the X-films. A very uneven series, to say the least. It peaked early with the great X2. I thought the last "mainline" X film, Apocalypse, was a total mess. Logan is Shakespeare compared to that one!
