Re Tarantino, if you comb back through this thread, you'll see that I've said virtually the same thing about a half-dozen times over the years.
I think Tarantino is a VERY talented writer of dialog... but he has squandered his entire career making "homages" to genre junk that was crap in the...
I think they may be telling you that because they don't want to admit that they're making a bogus claim. Or maybe they simply don't know and assume it's correct because that's how the description reads. (Years in this crazy hobby has revealed again and again that we know much more about these...
This would be a more useful request if you mentioned your required size range, desired leather type and finish, a particular maker and/or contract you prefer, etc.
There's no rule. Even if there had been a rule in the past, it wouldn't matter nowadays. Wear it how you like.
Personally, for fedoras I prefer the classic down in front, up in back.
Pedantic observation: I have one of these Schott 654 jackets in black, it's great.
But I've never seen the cowhide described as "waxy" anywhere before, including Schott's own description at their site. I just Googled, and it's apparently only on the Nordstrom page for it. And I think "waxy...
Yeah, The Orville continues to be a real downer.
And I'm done with Gotham. Folks here may recall that I've gone back and forth on hating and liking it, but 20 minutes into this week's (final) season premiere I just realized I don't care and turned it off.
Even after finally having given in to...
I watched it too. More precisely, I hate-watched it.
The show is such an embarrassment on every level, and especially MacFarlane himself, who can neither write a decent hourlong dramedy script, nor play the captain as an interesting character. The obviously big budget thrown at this show...
Again, it's partly a case of my phone not handling certain light/colors so well. It's off in the red/gold hues, I've had a number of sunset pictures that came out looking nothing like the sunset did to the human eye. My first selfie with this hat, taken in dappled sun with spring leaves just...
Well, that's good to hear. My problem with them was a long time ago - around 2006 - so they likely have an entirely different staff and procedures now. But it remains the only problem I ever had with an Australian dealer across 7 or 8 Akubra purchases in 15 years... so I won't ever recommend...
Re Three Billboards, I'll say this for it: Out of nearly all the intensely hyped/praised films of the last few years, this is the only one that I didn't find hugely disappointing when I watched it. Great performances, unusual and not immediately predictable story. Yes, it's an ugly story of...
Re the Leisure Time in Regency Fawn... I got one a few months back, and it is really less of a "mid brown" than I expected based on Akubra's pics. It is an unusual gray-brown shade that is very hard to capture accurately, at least with a smartphone camera. This was taken in open shade and...
Dude, there are a bunch of excellent Australian Akubra dealers. HatsDirect and Everything Australian are outstanding and carry the widest selection, I've had good buying experiences with both. Both dealers consistently get praised by the folks here. I've also had good buying experiences with...
I've had jackets made from all kinds of hides, and I like goatskin the best.
I'm not a moto jacket guy, so I don't need protection, just something that stands up to the elements and ordinary wear. Horse and cow leather are great - and even lambskin has its place - but as others have said...
How about a Navy G-1 (or the earlier M-422A) jacket? They have bi-swing backs and underarm gussets that provide much more freedom of movement in arms/shoulders than the more simply constructed A-2, and they look just as cool if not cooler.
I disagree. I didn't like, or feel we really needed, this episode. This series is much, much, MUCH too long. I mean, the whole first ten minutes of this episode was totally about a victim: did we need this character so carefully defined just so he could be killed? NO. Sure, it's very well...
As I think I already mentioned here, I got a Taylor's Chicago model on sale at this time last year.
I got an XL Long because there were no Regulars available, and I'm really glad to have the extra body length... but being only 5'8" I needed FOUR inches taken off the sleeves. Because the...
Hey, I have one of those Amish straws... purchased on a vacation in PA when I was a kid over 50 years ago! Here's one of the pictures I used in an oral report about hats I did in eighth grade (1968):
And it's great to see the amishcraft links for the fur felt ones. I knew there had to be...
I suspect there are actual Amish hatters who make the bulk of the hats worn in their communities... and they are better made and less expensive than those Stetsons. But, not surprisingly, these Amish hatters have no presence on the Web!
