They are extremely comfortable. They are quite soft wool. In this sense they are a contrast to the sweaters I usually wear (military Woolly Pullies , Guernseys), but a contrast is needed sometimes. They cling to the body very naturally. As a woolly aficionado, I have no doubts about endorsing...
Roll on winter - I agree! May I ask which colour your chose? I am likely to choose the olive WP rollneck and the Navy without patches, to add to my ludicrously large collection of military sweaters!
I have written to Outdoor Knitwear and Neil replied to me saying that there would be a limited issue of the roll necks in October - in army green, navy blue, black, 'brown mix'. If you send me a private message I shall send you his contact details in return so that you can place an order directly.
I really like it. It does look as if it was made by OKW or TW Kempton (which amalgamated with OKW). The colour is quite unusual. I am sure you enjoy wearing it. I would love to have one in Army green - in fact I shall have to get one!
Very nice indeed. Unusual cream colour. Where did you get it at the time? I shall definitely ask OKW if they do this for home as well as export market.
Best wishes,
Aidan
They appear to be. I have seen them on Japanese websites and I think OKW make them for that market, perhaps other overseas markets too. I might ask them.
I wouldn't mind one of those myself and so might ask Outdoor Knitwear as well. I know that they are made for the export market, mainly Japan I think.
I am already looking forward to autumn when I can wear WPs, Guernseys and a submarine jumper again.
You use the past tense: does that mean that you no longer have any WPs. If so, that can easily be remedied, Outdoor Knitwear (www.outdoorknitwear.com) have been mentioned in this thread. They have all the colours that Bridgedale used to do. I 'graduated' to them from Bridgedale when the latter...
Richard,
I have a question about your Israeli sweaters: are they ribbed wool? I think they are but can't quite tell from the photo and I have certainly seen Israeli soldiers in ribbed Woolly Pullies.
Best wishes,
Aidan
PS. I notice you use the word 'jumper' for sweater, which is unusual for...
The quality of Outdoor Knitwear is better, I think. Also, if you buy a Guernsey, the ones from Woolovers are not really the most 'authentic' in terms of pattern. For these, try Guernsey Woollens (guernseywoollens.com) or Guernsey Knitwear (guernseyknitwear.co.uk). I think there's another...
Richard,
That is a great collection. I have a large - in fact embarrassingly large - number of Woolly Pullies, mainly from Outdoor Knitwear (including the grey as in your photograph). I wear them whenever the opportunity arises.
Best wishes - and greetings from London,
Aidan
I like the black woolly pully and was wearing it last week. The chap you saw was probably ex-Royal Tank Regiment as they still wear black woolly pullies and black Guernseys.
I tend to favour military sweaters and wool Guernseys and have worn these a lot over the past few weeks. I do have some Sou'West chunkies as well and, as I indicated in my reply to Tomaso, I used to have a fisherman's sweater from Black Sheep but outgrew it.
Looks really nice. I used to have one of those Sloppy Joe sweaters, some years ago, but I'm afraid it became too small for me because I put on a little weight!
I shall have to look at the Black Sheep site again. It looks great on you.
