New RedWing Store NOT Ready for "Prime Time"

A Red Wing store front opened not too far from work. A co-worker & I popped in at lunch one day. There was 1 customer ahead of us but the service was top notch. The owner/operator knew his stuff. I can't believe the staff you described given the market these shoes target.

    Storing hats

Probably if you had long hair felts (peluche/plush) but not your well-pounced models. The sweatband pressure can permanently mark the crown of the lower hat. I have stacked felt hats on top of straw hats but never another felt that I cared about.

    I love the Fed IV!!

Since the back of my head has hair on it & doesn't "feel" the sweat like my forehead, I always pad in the rear of the hat, not the front. JMHO

    I love the Fed IV!!

No, that is for protecting the hat in the box not for shaping it to your head.

    I love the Fed IV!!

It doesn't look it from this angle. You don't want too little of crown above the brim compared to your jaw-line below the brim.

Stretching a hat - advice please....

That is true but when we find one of these "pearls" from days gone by, you need factor in their rarity. Being a LNL (Large Noggin Louner), I have to expand my search criteria to land some of the models I desire. I always look a size above & size below for vintage lids. You may have a larger...

Stretching a hat - advice please....

When a wet sweat dries, necessary oils from the leather go with the water that evaporates, so make sure you replace them by using some leather condition = Lexol conditioner wipes mentioned earlier. Leather shrinks when it gets wet & then dries because these oils leave & the leather pores close up.

Stretching a hat - advice please....

This is VERY feasible if your sweatband is in good condition. That is too nice of an OR to not gently stretch even with a Hat Jack type stretcher. Get some Lexol conditioner wipes, wipe down the sweat, put the stretcher in, steam the hatband ribbon area well & gently open up the stretcher a...

Stretching a hat - advice please....

I've got quite a few 7 1/2's that I have gently coaxed to fit my 7 5/8 LO noggin with vintage hat stretchers. Never needed to or considered cutting the sweat stitching. I condition the leather sweat, steam the outside felt area at the base of the crown, put in the stretcher & leave for a few...

I need HELP Cigarette Stench is Killing Me!!!

I got an A-2 with heavy smoke stench a few years back to have nose art done on the back. I turned it inside out & Febrezed the liner & knits, used Lexol cleaner & conditioner on leather. I wear it to bars & no worries of smoking an occasional cigar in it. Doesn't reek but SWMBO letsit in the...
