All You Need to Know About Hat Etiquette

Did the women have to shave their mustaches? I used to watch Walt Disney's "Wonderful World of Color" when I was a kid. Walt always put in an appearance at the opening of the show. If Walt didn't have to shave off his mustache, then Disney Co. has a hell of nerve making such a policy for their...

    Post New Hats Here!

Site of Louis Custom Hatters Today I love Google Earth. Here is an image of the location of Louis Custom Hatters today. According to Google Earth, the building on the left is 677 Randolph, so 671 is also an address in that building, or it is the parking lot in the center of the image...

Yet Another My Custom Tailor Suit

Now this is getting interesting! I went to the web sites of both MyCustomTailor and MySuitShop. The look is very similar. At the very least, they used the same web designer. Then I brought up both web sites side-by-side. Here is where it gets interesting. Both sites have the same phone...

Yet Another My Custom Tailor Suit

Mea Culpa! MySuitShop is not MyCustomTailor Please permit me to amend my earlier comment. The second Bangkok tailor with whom I did business was NOT MyCustomTailor.com. Rather, they are MySuitShop.com. I haven't done business with MyCustomTailor.com, so I can't make any worthwhile...

Yet Another My Custom Tailor Suit

Prince Henry and MyCustomTailor I have done business with both outfits, but far more with Prince Henry. I'd say I have about a dozen of their suits. I recently purchased one from MyCustomTailor. I had a hard time getting both to understand the concept of "high armhole". In fact, I just...

"Look for the union label, when you are bying a coat ..." When clothing manufacturing was moved off-shore to non-union factories. Manufacturers paying U.S. union wages can't compete with factories in Latin America and Asia. Check this WikiPedia article...

    A custom suit!

Here is a link to an outfit I have used with good results, providing you give them very clear instructions. They travel Australia, North America, and Europe about four times a year. Go to this site and look for this link: Elite Collection - Super 120s Fine Wool with Cashmere in Colored...

    Pocketwatches

Look for the three gold balls Prowl pawn shops, particularly ones not too far from well-to-do areas. The American cable TV show "Pawn Stars" comes to mind. Three generations of men operate a pawn shop in Las Vegas. The stock as shown on television looks to be of very high quality. I live in...

    Wider toe shoes

Narrow toes, not really I have big feet. I have a problem with arthritis in the big toe joint in the right foot. As a result, I can't wear shoes that press my toes together or press on my instep. I have a closet full of Allen Edmonds shoes. I buy 13 EEE and the fit is great. I can wear the...

1912 World Series Sea of Hats

Homburgs! We ain't got no steenking homburgs! "... until I can afford to have art make me one." Please forgive my paraphrase of that famous line from "The Treasure of the Sierra Madre", also parodied in "Blazing Saddles". I got a vintage homburg last spring on eBay. I contacted Art about a...

Clothes Brush, what to get and where?

As some of you may know, the weather in the eastern half of the U.S. has been particularly cold and snowy the past few weeks. Today as I was getting out of my car, I brushed against an over-sized pickup truck parked mostly in the adjacent parking space, covered in winter road grime. I got a...

    Don't be a suit wimp!

Washington, they only dress so they don't get arrested for going around naked. Many years ago I had a job in a boiler room. Coat arm holes, how high is high?

Got it! Good arm holes, pics to follow Yes, I finally got it and the arm holes are smaller and higher, and comfortable, and the bottom of the coat does not ride up when I lift my arms. I'll provide some particulars and pics soon. Thanks for everyone's interest.

Capricorn, Isle of Capri, Cutting a caper While I am no tanner, philologically speaking, I'd say, "goat". Oh how I hate email shorthand. The laughing smiley above was actually typed as l.o.l (without the periods). I wasn't laughing out loud, but typing philo logically.

    Which fedora???

Never buy a hat that is sized S, M, L, XL Buying a hat can be a real crap shoot. Even hats that have proper sizes aren't always consistent. While I prefer the look of the Stefano Executive to the look of the other two, the sizing is an issue.

When are you too old for a Beatle's suit

Disagree If you (like me) are old enough to have watched the Beatles on Ed Sullivan or to have stopped at the G.C. Murphy 5 & 10 cent store on the way home from school to buy the new Beatles 45 rpm record, you are too old.

    Jos A Banks

Joe Banks cuts prices, and so does everyone else Banks' clothes are good, but nothing special. Every retailer is cutting prices. I get fliers in the mail from Macy's every week with discount coupons. Borders and Barnes & Noble send me emails more than every week offering 20% to 50% off on...
