That is a great looking sweater. I had a Canadian Army woolly pully when I was at university and, like tropicalbob, would like to source another one. Like Stevieboy, I have the moss green version which is a very similar colour - one among my ridiculously large collection of WPs!
I agree with both thoughts really. At one level it does seem ridiculous and it will get the 'political correctness gone mad commentators' worked into a low-level hysteria.

Interesting in the context of this discussion.
Some of the posts above have alluded to a nasty form of reactionary politics connected to Young Fogeydom, but I recall nothing of that among my friends or their associates. I suspect that might have come later in the 1980s. True, we were an all-male group, but the college back then was...
Yes, I have the very similar submariners' sweater from Silverman's: I've had it for about 15 years and I know that Outdoor Knitwear do a similar one. I've had navy blue versions of the sub sweater in the past.

Nice photo of David Margulies in a WP. Sorry he's died - I remember him well as the Mayor of NYC in Ghostbusters.

Young Fogey wasn't an 'insult' as such. Among my group of friends we used it humorously and affectionately. My tutor once called me a Young Fogey with a hint of criticism because I was wearing...
How many of you remember, or were influenced by, the Young Fogey phenomenon or its American counterpart? I was having a nostalgic conversation about this with an old friend over the Christmas period. At university in the mid-80s, I was a fully paid-up Young Fogey. It was an informal cultural...
