For the past week in London and the South of England the weather has been unseasonably and unpleasantly mild with south and south-westerly winds straight out of hell, high humidity, perpetual greyness and warm nights. There have been none of the nice crisp mornings and clear days we had last...
I identified with this post for a number of reasons. First, in my first couple of terms at University, I joined the Navy OTC after being persuaded to do so by a friend - his father was one of the instructors. Although I was in the Army section of the Corps at school, I was (still am) interested...
I would be very happy to send you a photo in which I am wearing a WP under a sports jacket - please send me a PM with an email and I shall do this straightaway.
I often like Mr Ingeneer wear a Woolly Pully in lieu of a jacket. However I also often wear one under a sports jacket and in both cases over a shirt. The shape of the Woolly Pully is such that it works well under a jacket.
The interesting thing about Derby Tweed is that it's very close to Army green - but not quite. It's a good colour for country wear - walks, hikes, visits to country pubs, etc.
I bought the purple mix crew neck when the colour first appeared but I'm afraid I have rarely worn it,. Not really sure why - I must get it out again soon!
By coincidence I'm wearing a Derby Tweed WP this morning. Being in Leicester, you could probably go along to OKW to pick up a Woolly Pully rather than ordering on-line.
Yes, it's nice to get out the warm sweaters again. I've been practically living in my Royal Navy Woolly Pully for the past week but today I dug out a dark red Guernsey.
I've been thinking about a new Sou'West Chunky and so I wonder if Peter is still around.
Derby Tweed is a very good colour. I have the crew neck with pen pocket! I am sure you will be very pleased with your v-neck and get some good wear out of it.
Welcome to the Woolly Pully Club. I very much hope that you will join. I would like to reinforce ingineer's recommendation of Outdoor Knitwear. There is a specific Woolly Pully section on the site. Their WPs are more authentically military and the MoD specification makes for a rugged but...
It was from you that I learned about US forces wearing the black WP. Before corresponding with you I had mainly associated it with our Royal Tank Regiment.
There is of course no such regiment as the Brown Howards. There is the Green Howards, now 2nd Battalion Yorkshire Regiment.
There are many colours of WP that are not used by the military at all, only civilians.
