Here is my latest jacket (a capeskin A-1 by Good Wear Leather).
John Chapman bounced over some images of a recent A-1 test jacket that he had produced and, despite the figuring of the recent capeskin, I was really won over by the detailing.
There are several generic A-1 patterns that tend...
Yes, Andrew and a number of others who know their Irvins have slated the zips. Personally? If I were to pay that price, I'd want the zips to look right (see http://www.flickr.com/photos/68855139@N08/6328755138/in/photostream/lightbox/).
The Devil is in the detail and it is down to personal...
Yes, Aero have other problems, covered in depth elsewhere on FL.
However, for accuracy I'd look to others to help.
The 'fashion CC' that was posted looks like the unhappy union of an Irvin and an AN-J-4 and that fluorescent orange hood is an odd choice.
I don't think that the CC was...
Do contact Jon, Rick - at least he can advise you before you start. The CC Irvin is comparatively rare and it would be shame to source the 'wrong' materials.
Jon is a very helpful and practical guy (and posts on FL).

Rather than tackle it yourself, why not contact Jon at Aces High (http://www.aceshighjackets.com/)? His Irvins are really excellent and he might be willing to try a collar.

I'm in the market for an Eastman A-1 in capeskin that's a bit rough around the edges as I have a project in mind.
Ideally, I'm looking for a 44L, but a 44R would do (regular finish, timeworn or .50Cal would all be fine).
I'd prefer the lining to be in good condition as I'd rather not...
There's an Aero Half-Belt for sale on VLJF for those that are interested.
Ken made it for the owner about 9 years ago. It's a special horse hide that's a little less thick than heavy front quarter but thicker than the one on the A2. Still a heavy jacket.
It's on the "Thunderbay" label...

I've had two horsehide GW Perry 42-16175-P A-2 jackets (one russet, one seal) and an original (44) - sold them all to VLJF members.
The GW russet had seen some hot water treatment in the past and was a bit snug in the chest; I didn't get on with the seal (too dark for my taste). I needed a...
Veg tanned goatskin is significantly lighter than most forms of horsehide (and better wearing). For the last few years I have preferred capeskin or goatskin as summer jackets (e.g. capeskin A-1 jackets by Eastman or Good Wear, goatskin Good Wear A-2 Perry Sportswear 23377 or Doniger jackets)...
