I just got myself this:
It's way too big for me, but I'm going to use it to practice sizing a considerably large garment down. Alos, I collect Hollywoods and look how pretty it is! Hollywoods are always the best patterns, IMO. And I know what year they all came out because they are...
I'm not going to wear the ugly, unflattering parachute dresses that are "hot" in the stores this week, but I will make and wear this lovely number from this vintage pattern:
I want to make the mini dress with long sleeves, too!
I made this whole thing today:
From this:
Waitress or Candy Striper? lol I'm going to go get an applique "A" for the chest area (in lieu of a pocket!) I also didn't take the belt into account when I put that bottom button on there :o Whoops!
Thanks ladies. I will read that article over the weekend and seriously give this a try! Maybe I will start on a top I don't want/like anymore so I won't get upset if something happens.
I have another Sewing Question, too....
Today I plugged in my grandmother's '38 Kenmore and it works...
Is it possible to make a pattern from an existing garment WITHOUT taking it apart??? Is it easy, best left to the pros, or impossible? Has anyone done this?
I ask because I have a silk 1920s dress I'd like to reproduce and make into something stronger, less smelly, and more wearable. But I...
I wish! LOL. I just wear high-waisted and suspendered whenever I can, very similar to her style. Bows on the chest are on most of my dresses and blouses.
When I was a little girl I was scared of old, burned down, and/or dilapidated buildings. Now -- I LOVE all of the above!
One fear that has stuck with me, though, is my intense fear of caterpillars. They were all over the place when I was kid and all the neighbouring kids would collect...
Looking at the babes in this thread really made me HAPPY! Thanks for all your posting and hard work. I like to sew my own clothes from vintage patterns, but use off-the-wall fabrics for them (see Show Us What You Made thread...) Creative dressers are right up my alley!
I like these ones...
Thanks everyone!
Nope, I didn't use the boning or the interfacing and it came out fine. I thought the interfacing would be too much for something I plan to wear in the heat!!
LorenaB = I never thought of it that way -- that my vintage buttons will be like carrying a part of my grandmother. I never met her -- she died before I was born. Also, I love Hawaiian dresses and my next dress is actually going to be in the Hawaiian style! Just waiting on the fabric!
The very top above the bust is HUGE, though. I also wish my buttons were whiter, but I found them in the drawers of my grandmother's 1938 Kenmore in what looked to be a 1950s cookie tin. So possible vintage buttons!!
1960s pattern. Size 18 1/2, but runs quite huge. I had to take mine in quite a bit. Envelope top is slightly tatty, but pattern is complete and has already been cut out. $7.00
Early 70s. Never opened or made by me, but sold to me as complete. $4.00
1950s teenage skirt. Never...
Again, I love everything. Lauren's 30s shorts set takes my breath away! MissAmeliana's dresses are always top notch, and I'm really digging kamikat's use of wilder fabrics ;)
