Probably Annie Hall. I've seen it countless times. I need to watch his other earlier (pre 2000) films again, it's been too long. I haven't seen anything of his that's more recent.
I don't like clutter, I don't want to end up on "Hoarders" and I need the funds to fuel my new habits so I find selling is best. There's someone out there who will love the items more than me and I'd rather have them go to a home where they'lll be cherished if I've become indifferent or...
I mean seriously, I've lost sleep and cried over the objects of my affection! The ones that got away, or were out of my league and budget. Then, suddenly, the magic is gone. Just like that. I want OUT! So I kick them to the curb on ebay.
Have you ever collected something vintage passionately...
Speaking of microwave ovens in old houses, please be safe and don't use them if your wiring is knob-and-tube, for example. Older wiring wasn't designed to withstand the higher voltages and burdens of many modern day appliances and a fire can spark.
Thanks for participating in the thread. It's always nice to be understood and "hip" is a bonus! :)
You make an excellent point about conversation openers, too. One values the people and present whereas the other is a joint venture into escapism. I knew the end was near when one of my...
My vintage webbed lawn chairs are my favorite- just like the ones that belong to the older folks in my neighborhood. Some of them will sit in front of their garage on a nice day and relax and engage in small talk with passers-by.
"I've got better things to do than sit around!"
How often do...
I have newer livingroom furniture (bought it before I really got into this). Eventually it will be replaced. The 50's magazine rack in my living room is filled with Life Magazines from the 50's. My three season sunroom is 100% vintage and my favorite place. It's filled with vintage games...
That is an example of how it's much deeper than things.
I don't have a dishwasher because the kitchen was built without one. I don't want one. Doing the dishes helps me unwind. I like the suds and the warm water. I don't buy that I'm not living green because there are two people in my...
I feel the same way. While I don't need people's approval I love it when they "get" it and really enjoy going back. More times than not I get a positive response along with people saying they feel very relaxed.
EXACTLY. And for a time, almost a decade ago, I suppressed that in favor of what I thought I "should" want. It's a nice feeling to not care what others think about my choice of home size, style and decor while being very content with what I have. I prefer smaller ranch home living quarters. It's...
I'm always working on kicking 2011 out of my house as much as I am able without sacrificing my sanity, health, budget or common sense. I find that the more I can create my own space based on mid-century ideals (even inching into the mid 70's is OK with me) and furnishings that my peace of mind...
I think it's the economy. There are things I used to buy on ebay that went for a LOT more a couple of years ago than what they are selling for now. I'm talking in the category of old books, magazines and other paper items.
I look at it like money. Some people say what good is it if you don't spend it. I like to bank a healthy savings- it's peace of mind to know that if I need it, it's there. Same with vintage clothing. I like to "bank" some. I enjoy taking things out, even old linens I'll never use. I admire them...
I don't recommend my method of protecting new to me vintage coats and jackets- I don't wear them. I know, against the law almost but they are irreplaceable so I keep them safe in my closet where I can try them on and imagine wearing them and then I put them back.
