Golden Era Things You've Revived Or Repaired For Use

I wanted a valve sound dock for my iPod but was dismayed at the cost of these so I asked a friend who is an electronics buff to add a mini jack socket to an old valve radio. The sound was amazing but I cant add a picture as I recently sold the thing when I realized it took up too much room...

1980's Aero Leather A2 for sale 42" chest - also a large size Mackinaw

Having just bought an Eastman Star A2 in a more comfortable 44" chest from a fellow Lounger, my early Aero A2 has to go to make room and generate cash for the next buy. It's 'well worn in" so the start price is £80 with no reserve. The Mackinaw I posted a couple of weeks ago is also on sale -...

Robert C Wilkins Farnham Quebec - Mackinaw? Any info please

According to a renowned expert on these coats: 'The company was founded by Robert C. Wilkins in 1890 in Montreal, Quebec. They moved the factory to Farnham in 1911. They specialized in uniforms and mackinaw coats like yours. They kept producing until 1967, at which point they sold out. The...

Robert C Wilkins Farnham Quebec - Mackinaw? Any info please

Pics now added - not sure if I want to keep it as I have a nicer looking raglan sleeve Harris Tweed overcoat which I prefer - so it may end up in classifieds.

Robert C Wilkins Farnham Quebec - Mackinaw? Any info please

Pictures to follow when it comes back from the dry cleaners on Saturday, (it smelled like a dusty attic), but meanwhile does anyone know anything about this maker? It's unlined, double breasted with a shawl collar and has a two button fastening belt in a coarse mainly dark grey wool. Cheers Rob

Schott 641 horsehide fit & size?

Andy has a point - my 125 was vintage - early 90's and had lace up waist/side adjustment. Manufacturers may be making sizes differently now. For example my Gibson and Barnes civil G1 is a 40R and fits me perfectly

Schott 641 horsehide fit & size?

Sorry Curt, my 46" Schott was a different style - the 125 'multipocket' I liked it for the extra length kidney panel and it had room for a sweater layer underneath, but I sold it when I got an Aero hh 'Brando'. My other Schott is a European made Schott -a 102 'multipanel' in size L so I'm no...

Schott 641 horsehide fit & size?

I'm a similar size you 6' 1" tall 43" chest 35" waist but 6 pounds heavier and I found the 46" chest the best fit in the Schott jackets I've had but nevertheless, fit is a very personal judgement, so I would strongly recommend you to contact Schott and ask their advice - they may take a while to...

    Wrinkle removal?

The gentlest way is to put the jacket on a good hanger and hang it in a warm humid place - for example when I was in a hurry on work mornings, before I retired, I've hung wrinked shirts on the outside of our walk in shower cubicle away from the spray and avoided having to iron them.

    Dealing with "Buyers Remorse"

Worf - A few words of wisdom and encouragement from my father - when he was alive and raising me- 'The man who makes no mistakes makes nothing - just make sure you learn from them.' And 'The day you stop learning is the day you die.' As Benny implies, you've clearly learned from your mistakes...

Yes that makes sense but what's the significance of the perforations - is it military or institutional?

    Please help id these boots

They seem to be perforation marked on the tongue with the size and date of manufacture )42 and 1940). The letters CGS are stamped into the insole. http://s1258.photobucket.com/user/robrinay/slideshow/1940%20Boots

Please help me to identify this "G1"

Thanks for taking the trouble to study it Atticus. Apparently 'The Gentry Chattanooga' opened in 1962 so given your info that it's civilian then if the zip is original it probably dates from somewhere from the 70's / 80's (Dinerman dated the zip 70's 80's from the eBay pics).

Please help me to identify this "G1"

I just bagged this for £59 from greedBay as an everyday wearer - its made of really supple leather (goat?). It was sold as a reproduction but to my slightly trained eye it's a bit of a mystery jacket. The mouton collar and lining look 'right' and so does the style but the zipper is wrong. The...
