That's my issue with the expensive repros... they're more accurate, but that also means having that painted-on waterproof shellac or whatever, which cracks and looks stupid (in my opinion). I like this matte, unfinished finish, even though it would probably mean putting some cream on it every...
I posted a few measurements in post #1722 above, which may be helpful. The problem is that not many people own the WPG jackets who can provide reasonably accurate measurements.
Useless trivia time... I am reading a book on costume history right now and one of the earliest mentions of "pea jackets," or "pilot jackets" as they were interchangeably known at the time, was 1836 in the UK. Short, double breasted jackets. Not precisely today's version, but in essence very...
This is why Bob M has such a job ahead of him.
Anyways, here's some pics of related jacket, but not the same. Interesting stuff. It's important to remember that astronauts would have had custom-made-up jackets, special for them, and maybe some NASA pilots/aircrew people would have too, so we're...
There's a bunch of people who think that anything made in the USA is better, too. Or handmade is always better. One problem is that even the experts around here often don't seem to know what they're talking about; most people come to conclusions then look for evidence to support their...
None that I've found, and there's a reason for that: the topic is really small, and there's not much to know. One could summarize trench coats -- their history, their details, their evolution, their cultural/style impact -- in a few paragraphs, or a single page. Seriously. The best way to learn...
One often sees the argument made in clothing forums that good clothes are an investment, but it's a mis-use of the word. Buying high-quality clothing is smart because it usually lasts a long time, and if the designs are conservative, remains appropriate to wear. However, even the best stuff...
Don't buy it, it's very thin on content. Some good photos. No worthwhile text. If you see it in a used bookstore for a few bucks then okay, since it's nice to flip through once in a while.
Both appear to be genuine to me, but that's no guarantee. When I get home tonight I'll dig through my collection of photos and check tags, etc.
Just remember, if you're looking to buy one of these, they fit wide and short. So if you're over 6' and/or skinny, avoid.
^ Further to my post above... the London Fog fits BIG and I have listed it for sale. The Jos Bank is also biggish, but it's a much better fit, and the detailing is just right. I'll be keeping it and probably wearing it next winter instead of my Burberry, which frankly is no better (and in fact...
This is a common internet clothing forum disease, and it spreads rapidly and has infected lots and lots of people, here and in other places. I'm cured of it, mostly, which is why I will never spend more than a few hundred bucks on anything I wear. However, it does come back sometimes, and itches...
