Add me to the gals who like the "tacky" look. :D Why not have fun with your wardrobe. I *would* go for "cheap", too, but I fear I may be a bit too old for that. I'll just admire it on you younguns! ;)
I haven't any time to look through my movie star pics on my computer as I'm leaving...
I've got lots of leopard print pics from the 20s and 30s. I don't have access to them right now, but I might later. Here's Joan Blondell in the 1930s:
And Carole:
Uhhhhhh :o
lol -- my friend Heathyr told me to add 1/4 of an inch on the sides and sleeves for a 16 and 1/2 inch for a 14.
And it worked perfectly. I don't know of this math you speak of!! lol. Thanks anyway -- I'll try to figure it out!
I've got a simple newbie question for you advanced gals:
I'm a 1930s/40s size 18. I've upsized both 14s and 16s to meet my sizing needs. I just want to know how many inches I would need to add to upsize a 12? Thanks.
I *love* the puff-sleeve dress and own several that are even puffier! I like both dresses in those pics -- even the stripe socks. I wear stuff like this on a daily basis [huh]
lol lol lol
You stole my idea because I know this 34 year old gal who only wears dresses from 1930s patterns and does her hair in weird old lady styles and always wears this pink old lady cardigan she got at Goodwill.
But other than me, the ODDEST person I ever knew was also probably a...
I metioned those UGLY things earlier in this thread. *PUKE* I only put a link, though, because having them in my face is offensive and temporarily blinds me lol
"a great (and sentimental) way to preserve an original vintage pattern - envelope, directions, and pattern pieces."
Oh man...
Oh yea! To her, they are just "old patterns." She sells them for $1!! 80s clothes are nasty -- lol. I was there the first time around and I have one rule -- NEVER GO BACK. 80s clothing being sold as "vintage" for $500 is laughable! I might still have some at my old house. Hmmm --...
I loved these clips! Everytime I see street scenes like this I always notice the driving. Especially when cars, horses, peds, and trolleys all shared the road. I would always notice that everyone would just go wherever there was room!
*giggle*!
The little old lady that I buy my patterns from was saying to me "I see these on eBay for obscene amounts and they are all labeled 'Rockabilly.' Do you know what that means?"
I tell her it's a code word for anything "vintage" or, more specifically, "1950s."
Her response...
I just went platinum from DYED BLACK hair and I still got all my locks....
It's indeed glamourous. I love being platinum. I feel so cute and natural in it! Black really wasn't the image I wanted to portray (people kept saying I reminded them of all this mainstream goth stuff that I either...
I put sponge rollers in my hair the other night and slept on them. In the morning they looked like little frizz-lets and no amount of brushing was taming them! So I washed it out :( I'm super jealous of your gals who have mastered the roller! Guess I'll stick to pincurls for now....
I just LOVE long skirts with cute, short sweaters! Again...if only I didn't look like potatoes....looks good on you Lauren.
And thanks ladies. Blondie = I've been sewing for a little over a year. I think I may have had pent-up talent in there that was never unleashed lol
