Are we LYING about our dresses???

lol I don't know about that. I have a REAL 1920s dress that is kinda rancid and stiff under the arms.

White pages may go the way of rotary phones in NY

I work for Yellow Book -- we are independent and have been around since 1930. Started by a woman, actually. Yet I never use the phone book :(

    Retro=Frumpy?

Frumpy = clothing TOO BIG!! I'm a "rebel" cuz I have tattoos and that's my definition. Oh -- and bad hair *cringe*

    Show us what you've made!

Such beauty and talent!! I've been in a sewing lull, but I'm picking up again. Working on DuBarry patterns right now. Just finished another incarnation of Hollywood 1908 (one of my favourite patterns!!) made it in a novelty Halloween print and left it sleeveless for summer!!

    Retro Fashion Week 2010

I agree with this. The girl who runs these things tries so hard, though. I almost feel bad for her in a way.... She also has a FL-like group called Timewarpliving.com. Again, it looks impressive, but hasn't really taken off.

    Mixing Eras

lol :eusa_clap I've said it before, I'll say it again -- my grandma had THREE dresses total in the 40s made from feedsacks. Fashion probably wasn't her first priority. My answer to this is still the same only I have a late 1930s pincurl/fingerwave 'do going on now.

When vintage becomes ' fashion' ..

lol If anyone was offended by what you said they need to get a life. Anyway -- I like being THE face, too, but I also don't feel I'm in some "exclusive" group or anything. I don't want that at all, but unfortunately most people read me that way. As for celebs -- bleh. I know NOTHING...

When vintage becomes ' fashion' ..

I do!! I can't stand looking like everyone else. lol. That's not the only reason, as you said, but I've always liked to go against the masses ever since I was a child. Also, I live in Killadelphia so I really doubt I'll ever have to worry about walking down Market Street and seeing...

When vintage becomes ' fashion' ..

:eusa_clap :eusa_clap :eusa_clap Couldn't have said it better myself. I could care less about what is "in" -- even if full-on 1930s attire and fingerwaves were all the rage "this season." I will continue to wear it long after the "season" is over. I'm ok with it going mainstream. I...

    The 1950s: The gateway era.

Hmmm. Good question. I know I loved the 20s first. I loved that decade ever since I was a little girl and had no concept of why I was so drawn to it. When I got heavily into vintage in 1998, it was silent movies I was first after! I've always been attracted to "rockabilly" men (ever...

Forbidden Images: Movie Montage Of Censored Images From 1920s And 30s

The Four Horsemen of The Apocalypse (1921) has prominent bare breasts in it. Valentino is an artist and these are the women he is painting. You can see Jean Harlow's bare breast for a split second in Red Headed Woman (1932) There's a topless woman in Maniac (1934) Some pre-Code movies...

    Show us your hair do's....

I'm glad the red is fading fast. It really damaged my hair and now I just have to wait for it to grow out so I can be a platinum blonde again! :p I don't care if it doesn't match my skin tone or whatever -- I like the washed-out fake look it gives.
