    Do You Dress For Dinner?

My grandma told me she had three dresses total in the 40s -- 2 made from feedsacks and one "Sunday" dress. She also told me she had two pairs of shoes -- 1 for everyday and 1 for "Sunday." When her everyday shoes wore out, her "Sunday" shoes became her everyday shoes and then she'd buy a nice...

"Time Traveler" in 1941: "modern" dress in old photos?

Of course, I didn't mean anything naughty by that :D I just meant she looks so bored and probably REALLY wants to sit there like Al Bundy, but can't. lol

    Help with Ginger-hair do!

I don;t know about the layout of the pincurls, but when I set my hair I always do the fingerwaves on top first, then pincurl around my head.

    My Finest ART DECO Item

These are my two most favourite art deco/moderne items. They are so simple, yet speak VOLUMES about the time they were made: A powder dish Salt & Pepper Shakers

"Time Traveler" in 1941: "modern" dress in old photos?

I liek the lady in the front row with the shiny shirt. lol She might as well have her legs wide open and her other hand down the front of her skirt.

"Time Traveler" in 1941: "modern" dress in old photos?

I've recently come across a "time traveler" in the Compton, CA 1930 yearbook: Barbara King looks like she should be in my mother's yearbook from 1970. If her hair was in ringlets, they had fallen out making her hair look more "70s" to me. Her face doesn't fit in with the other cherubic...

    Do You Dress For Dinner?

Nah. I wear House and Casual dresses to work, to shop, to the bar, wherever lol That's all I own. My grandma had 3 dresses PERIOD in the 40s so I doubt she followed those "rules."

    Sewing Lessons & FAQ

I've got a question. What would skirts like this be made out of typically: I have a pattern for a similar skirt from 1933 and I'd like to make it so it's rather "stiff" looking -- kinda like these gals have theirs (as in, no flowing bias drape.) Thanks.

    Sewing Lessons & FAQ

I wouldn't spend $150 on something I'm going to tear apart. As for copying a gamrnet -- why not? If it's for your own personal use I don't see what the problem is. If you like the shape, hate the colour/design/fabric, and it's in your price range I would do it. Not sure I'd re-sell, though...

    Sewing Lessons & FAQ

I have this fabric!! I don't plan to make anything out of it, though. It's too awesome. It will be hoarded.

Everyday Women of the Golden Era

THE BIGGER THE BETTER!!!! I'm doing my family tree and it's been confirmed what I alread knew -- I come from a long line a factory workers, both male and female. My great grandparents came over from Wurttenberg, Germany in the 1880s and ended up being "Glass Blowers" over here. My...

Am i vintage hair-disadvantaged because i have bangs?

You can push your bangs to the side and fingerwave them just fine. They should blend in with the rest of your hair. This is what I'm currently doing, but my bangs have grown out quite a bit. You can curl your bangs under with an iron and spread them out into a "U" shape giving the illusion...
