Wasn't the A-2 a military uniform item? And If so, wouldn't there be uniform regs for "proper" wear of the A-2, just as there would be for service dress uniforms?
I'm in the military and every uniform item is covered by some regulation as far as fit and wear is concerned,
I'm wondering if the...
Just soliciting afew opinions on what the correct length for an A-2 should be? Let's say wartime spec, not today's mall-style fashion jackets.
I've seen people post pics in their A-2 jackets where the front barely came down to their beltline when they wore jeans. Where should the bottom front...
The only bad thing about finding the "perfect" A-2 is that the search for that perfect jacket would be over. It's a paradox. Sometimes the hunt is better then the kill, as they say.
I appreciate each and every jacket in my collection for their unique qualities including fit (each one fitting a...
I'll try to take some pics soon; we're in the middle of buying a new house and moving so things are a bit hectic at the moment.
Rest assured, for the price the wool A-1 is a bargain!
Hi Scott,
The Spearhead wool A-1 measures 25 inches armpit to armpit (buttoned) and a sleeve length of 27.5 inches. It fits me with room for a light sweater or sweatshirt underneath, so it's not snug on me. There may be some minor size differences among two different Spearhead XXL jackets...
I bought a wool A-1 and a US Navy zippered deck jacket from Spearhead Militaria recently. The A-1 is pretty nice quality for such a low price, and the size XXL fits me perfectly (I am 6' 1"' and weigh 210 pounds, usually wear a size 46 Long jacket). The Navy deck jacket isn't bad, but I found it...
If you are looking for a nice leather blood chit, try A-2jacketpatches on eBay. Sean does great work and adds a nice patina to each piece to simulate age and wear; truly remarkable work and worthy of any flight jacket!
Hey Dixon Cannon,
You have taken the TOTGM theme to a new level, my friend! If you ever get to NYC, visit the Cradle of Aviation museum; they have an original Grumman Goose (currently in Pan Am color scheme) which was actually used to film interior shots for TOTGM!
Happy flying...and watch...
I always liked browsing through the Avirex store in NYC before they changed their style. I have owned numerous A-2 Avirex jackets over the years, along with afew of the high-end repros (ELC, Aero, Goodwear). I have a mint-condition Avirex "China Doll" A-2 that I treasure. Avirex/The Cockpit...
I loved "Tales of the Gold Monkey" on TV (1982) and bought my first bomber jacket, an A-2 style Schott leather jacket, when I was 16. I hand-made a Flying Tigers blood chit and sewed it to the back myself. Went all through high school wearing my TOTGM/Jake Cutter-themed leather bomber. I have...
The Cockpit has a near clone of the Indy jacket called the Vintage Roughneck Oil-Driller made of washed goatskin. It is an awesome jacket! Lots of grain and patina and does not look like a mass-produced jacket at all. Really looks and feels like a vintage piece of leather but it's brand new. And...
Nice jacket; I have a US Authentic in seal brown horsehide. They are well-made jackets with thick, heavily pigmented leather. The grain really starts to pop up with increased wear. Not wearing mine lately since I just received my new Aeroleather A-2 and have been wearing it every day (it's...
Nice jacket! Are you planning to produce the Aero A-2 jacket with rust/red knits? I believe I saw your test sample here on the Lounge in another link...
Willis & Geiger A-2 jackets can be found in mint condition on eBay at good prices. I'd only restore an A-2 if it were very rare/collectible since re-doing a lining and/or cuffs can get a little pricey. But good luck on the restoration project friend!
