I've purchased 5 different LW jackets over the years; Stuart was always a consummate professional on the phone and in his prompt, concise replies to my e-mails. I gave him my height and weight and afew other simple measurements and he recommended a certain sized jacket. The jacket always fit...
Wdw I busted out laughing with your posted "whipping a dead horse" icon! Thanks for the humor !
And how apropos to be referring to a dead horse in a thread about horsehide!
Think of a horsehide leather jacket like the human face...both are organic with naturally occurring blemishes and some parts are more wrinkled, some parts are smoother, some places seem like the skin is thinner or thicker, but it's the subtle as well as the pronounced differences that make the...
If the armholes are really tight or uncomfortable, you could ask BK if you could exchange the jacket for a different model or size? Perhaps different BK model A-2's have different armhole configurations and measurements. The armholes may loosen up and provide some give as the leather breaks in...
Hey Coffee, your post is dead on, IMHO (and your analogy is much clearer then the Spud Webb-Michael Jordan thing). Horween offers some great leather and in turn is crafted into the masterpieces of LW, Aero, Alden, etc.
The Cockpit in NYC makes a reasonably accurate russet brown horsehide and seal brown goatskin A-2, both under 500 clams. Check out their website and compare.
I have owned all the big-name repro A-2 jackets (ELC, Lost Worlds, Aero, Goodwear, Real McCoys, etc, etc) and in my opinion they all have their pluses and minuses, their benefactors and detractors; they are, after all, reproductions! No two people can agree on everything. In my opinion, and...
Photos don't always show the true color of leather, especially the russet brown tone.
I own a LW russet brown A-2 and the color is PERFECT!
Not overly reddish nor too dark or flat.
LW is the ONE manufacturer who seems to have gotten the wartime Army Air Corps russet brown color right, IMHO.
I agree with Oneterrifichog; Orvis offers some great khaki trousers at reasonable prices. Their wrinkle-free Ultimate khakis are a winner as are their Surf-washed vintage khakis.
Aero will taper the jacket if your measurements call for it and you request it. Having a larger chest or wide shoulders and a somewhat smaller waist sometimes calls for a large size jacket to accommodate the upper body but with a slightly tapered waistband/side seams.
Tell Amanda at Aero...
I own (or used to own) everyone's jacket, from Schott to LW to Aero and Eastman. Schott is a nice, quality jacket. Lost Worlds is TOP notch. I'd rate Schott as an 8 out of 10 and LW would be a definite 10, IMHO.
Their horsehide is THE best, the quality of workmanship, zips, stitching, snaps...
