Funny thing...I had a Corvette convertible, with removable hardtop, very, very nice car. Drove it around, rarely would anyone except die hard Vette heads give it a second glance. I also own a 1969 mint VW sedan. I can't go anywhere in it without people stopping to ask questions and make comments...
From an engineering point of view, the example cited is one of the best ever in the automotive industry. I'll put a VW made at the factory in their heyday (late 50's - late 60's) up against any Caddy or other vehicle of your choice. These were precision built cars, with doors so well designed...
You are correct. From my short experience, there are fine examples available in the $400 - $500 range. But there are very good ones also at the $299 range, but you have to look harder to find them.
I have 2 low cost ($99 - China) leather jackets, actually decent wearing coats. The kind you wad...
Please note that the word cheap was never referenced. Some are more cost conscious than others, and I thought this site catered to everyone. If I was mistaken in this regard, it is with deep disappointment that my apology is offered.
The intent was informational in that you do not have to spend...
Foe the price conscious, there are several options for those of us who will only settle for "Made in USA" clothing (my wife, for one). Historic Aviation Magazine (www.historicaviation.com) offers a good looking A-2, brown or black, sizes 36 to 46, and made by the supplier to the US Air Force. At...
I'm in that camp too. Wearing a Large for a long time, just recently discovered that a size "M" actually is a better fit, in most cases. Never wore anything that draped like Jerry's A-2, however!
After watching various items on the Bay, those that start at $1.00 often get a lot of action and sell for more than they should. And those that simply have a "Buy It Now" price often just sit, sometimes not selling at all.
Funny how it works.
I knew there was a reason I like the poly better! Plus, my G&B A-2 just slides on/off so nicely, and has complete freedom of movement without that "binding" feeling that the cotton liners have. Checked every coat in my closet...ranging from inexpensive casual jackets, to my A-2's, G-1, B-15, and...
Well, guess I'm in the minority here. Still prefer the "silkiness" of rayon, though, especially with long sleeved shirts during the cooler time of the year. Again, just personal choice.
Breathable? Contrary to popular thinking, leather does not really "breathe" all that well. We switched from...
WPG is to be commended for their effort. The US Wings A-2 has a one piece back and sleeves, leather coat hook sewn in the collar back. The lining is a nylon material as this makes it much easier to put the jacket on. They previously did a cotton lining and made the switch to the nylon because of...
My thinking is the same with regards to price and quality.
Seriously looked at it, but the lack of side entry pockets was a no deal for me. Nice jacket for sure, but instead opted for the US Wings A-2 2000 at $195 with free shipping. This one will be my "patch" jacket. Full review to come...
The P-51D Mustang is my favorite also. This one, a replica version with a V6 Honda, flies very nice. Carries two adults, can be flown from the back seat.
Yes, it is a huge project. Those pictures of the wing section were taken at the school shop where we are doing the build. That is Mr. Keith...
I may have hit the jackpot as there is a local tailor from Thailand who worked in a sewing factory. She was recommended by a Harley biker leather store. She is sewing some patches for me now on an A-2...hoping it turns out!
YES! These side entry pockets are well hidden, but will cause a very slight "poofiness" in the lower front area. The Alpha A-2 (sent it back) had a huge "poof" in the lower front belly area, especially when zipped up. My G&B A-2 does not suffer from this characteristic.
As stated, I'm a big fan...
