I'm pretty much set on the 24th Inf. patch, the Western Pacific patch, a leather name tag with the CIB embossed, and the 4 inch US Army patch on the right breast...just like a presidential A-2, well, sort of. But that would be enough, and I don't think it would be overkill.
Think we'll frame...
I am of the opinion now that the import versions of the Alpha jackets are superior to the USA made versions. This is in reference to the satin jackets. I'll know more about their leather products next week.
At any rate, I have a pair of metal (3/4 inch) Corporal chevrons ordered. I think those would look OK on the epaulets. Right?
The fact is, enlisted personnel in the 24th Infantry did not wear A-2's at all. That is why I need a bit of artistic license...just like Hollywood when they make a movie!
Those actually are worn on the collar, and he was enlisted 24th Infantry. These are seen on WWII uniforms, not necessarily dress uniforms...I think. Is wearing these in this application verboten?
OK...here is what I've got so far. I do not like the size of a 5" patch (5 inch plate in photo), and while I like the 3 inch patch, a 4 incher would be perfect. Might have a leather one custom made. Note the U.S. pin and the Infantry pin on the epaulets, normally worn on the collar. I have...
I do appreciate all of the feedback on this. Want the jacket to look the part, and something that my Dad will be proud to wear. He turns 90 in June. Golfs two times a week, drives his F-250 Super Crew Cab from Minnesota to South Texas twice a year. Spends a month fishing on the Canadian border...
Perhaps. My desire was to highlight his awards. He was not drafted, he volunteered in 1944. His older brother was drafted in 1943. Both sons served in WWII.
You guys got me thinkin'...so, leave off the medals. OK. Leave the rank off the sleeves. OK. The Western Pacific patch and 24th Infantry patch are OK on the sleeves? The round US Army patch on the right breast is OK?
Need to find Corporal Technician pins somewhere, somehow.
Well, since this is not an "official" replica jacket, we need to be granted a bit of artistic liberty. If I could find Technician, 5th Grade pins (Cpl. Tech.), that would be super cool, then they could be placed on the epaulets.
The medals? Not much choice here. Will have to go on the jacket...
OK...I made some adjustments on the name tag. Here are two examples...which one do you like best? Yes, it is meant to be in the "spirit" rather than 100% correct. Something that my Dad would be proud to wear. He has been thanked for his service by many! And thanks for mentioning it!
Well...I guess you are correct. I had only looked at Army dress uniforms. My Dad is not a flyer, and has never had a leather jacket.
Gen. Macarthur wore an A-2...wonder where his name tag was?
edit: I just saw the General in an A-2...with a name-strip on the left side.
The only experience I have with these Alpha's is my Vintage B-15 (USA), and trying on many MA-1's (China) in Germany. The Chinese made jackets were larger, and seemed to have heavier satin material, and the knits were superb...almost G&B quality.
The Vintage jacket in a size L is...
Hey Deacon - Thanks! Yes, some name tags are worn on the left breast, but the U.S. Army name tags are all on the right side. I studied a lot of pictures online to make sure. His name tag will not have wings. And having it on the right side actually makes it all symmetrical, since the Infantry...
