I have the Glen Grey which is between the Moonstone & the Carbon Grey in darkness.
I've never bothered with Carbon Grey in any style due to comments here about it being so dark & close to black.

If I hadn't just sent my 50's HB in for re-line & zipper replacement, I'd be all over this...my timing stinks lately...
Another thing to try is talcum powder. Rub some it on the stain, let sit for a while then brush out.
The talc will lift some of the particles out with it....
Standard answer = depends....most of time a good rinse with distilled water will get the dirt & salt out.
Cleaning the ribbon hatband is another challenge. More stubborn marks need naptha bath...
There was a video of somebody really working over an Akubra or a custom Indy hat...I know guys that have gotten open crowned Campdrafts & really worked them over before creasing & shaping as desired. That felt is some tough stuff....
Get a spray bottle, fill with distilled water, soak the Fed4, then work with your hands like kneading dough.
Push the crown down then push it back up....roll the brim up towards the crown & then do it the other way.
Put it in the shape you want & let it dry slowly preferably on your noggin . JMHO
To soften up the brim, I use a 50-50 mixture of distilled water & rubbing alcohol in a spray bottle, really soak the brim then work it with your hands. Next, I take a steam iron & handkerchief & iron it with lots of steam. The alcohol will break down some of the shellac & get the brim more...
