Here's a fun little nugget of info from the Stetson Tokyo instagram:

Apparently the premier Strat is 10% Beaver, 90% Rabbit!
Thanks, Tim, that's immensely helpful.
I've got one or two 'project' 6 7/8 hats that I bought intending to have sized up, but just never did. Figured I could give it a shot.
Thanks, gents!
It's the felt, this is a pretty thick western weight body. Supposedly it was 'vintage' deadstock felt(of what vintage, unknown) that was was laying about in the Hatco factory.
I know this link has floated around the lounge before, looks like it could be the same mold:

Some hat block questions
1) other than the venerable #52, is there block profile number I should be looking for that's good for a straight sided crown?
2) anybody have experience with Hatters Supply House? They offer new wooden blocks: https://www.hatterssupplyhouse.com/hat-blocks
It appears there's a 10% off code good through tomorrow if you buy direct from jiffysteamer.com (although with shipping it looks like I'd be better with amazon)
I really need one of these too...

Not currently on their revamped site...give a ring maybe.
There are currently several versions of a "straw" OR.
There's the basic Shangtung one, which in most cases can be had for less than $80-90
There's a Panama version of the OR in real straw, and there are a few variations of the "twisted Panama" straw, some of which are vented.
I hadn't seen that shade of brown before....
They're also showing a 'natural' OR in the Fall 2018 line. http://www.hat-co.com/perch//resources/f18-stetson-city.pdf
The Imperial designation isn't used in the 2018 catalogue, but theoretically it should be of higher quality than Royal Deluxe, as Anthony stated.
The current Hatco quality scale for dress hats is delineated in the catalogue thusly:
Excellent
Royal Deluxe
Royal
Medalist
Wool
I'm not one for stains, but I definitely have a beater Resistol where I've mashed the crown in highly asymmetrical ways to get that kind of "distressed" look. But I'm trying to ape the John Wayne in Rio Bravo look.
And while it's not necessarily my personal choice either, some do better than...
Akubra is like the Toyota/Honda of hats. They're nice, they'll last forever, but if you're looking for luxury, it doesn't quite hit the mark. And I drive a Honda (and own an Akubra) so I cast no aspersions.
