I hate it when I'm in line at the grocery store and the guy in front of me, wearing a Palm Beach suit, pays with food stamps then goes out and climbs into a coachbuilt Duesenberg! ;)
My dad got to Hot August Nights back when I was in high school. He always talked about going back. It must really be something. I wish we'd gotten to it.
Any updates on the Plodge, Lizzie?
Funny story about those. Last fall, when my now-two-year-old daughter was about 19-months, we took her to a local (fairly big) car show. She was being very good and walking, holding my hand, not touching anything.
We came across a '63 Bel Air with one of those against the front bumper, and...
About a year ago a family friend dropped off an old Underwood desk model at my house. I'm sorry to say it sat in my basement until yesterday. I finally had the presence of mind to drag it to the office with me and run the serial number (6,632,646). Turns out it's a "Master" of 1949 vintage...
Nice set of photos! I've contemplated picking up a pair of reproduction WWII swim trunks myself. Seems the ladies have all the good choices when it comes to vintage/retro swimwear.
A lot of then remind me unsettlingly of the FLLW "Usonian Automatic" in which I had the misfortune to attempt living back in 2005. Apparently people do it, but I don't know how.
Isn't it funny how quickly the risque becomes the mundane? Every time my two-year-old sings "rock and roll!", I kinda wince, but then the original meaning is as lost as that of "jazz".
For that money I could have a really nice '54 Corvette with a multi-carb'd GMC 302 and a three-speed manual gearbox professionally installed.
What are Jag XK120s going for at the moment?
I would suggest a single edge safety razor. They use a nice, stiff blade like a straight razor, but without the associated hazards of holding that blade out on its own. I use a GEM Micromatic most every morning and I find the shave it gives unbeatable by either of the Gillettes I've used. So...
Thanks, Fedora Loungers, for sucking away two hours of my work day. :eusa_doh:
It's really an excellent thread, I just wish I'd discovered it at some other time! :)
I think it's a cormorant. I've always kind of wanted a '51-'54 Packard. They're under appreciated for what look to be handsome, well-built cars. They're my favorite Packards since the beginning of the pontoon-fender era.
In that vein, I've been wanting to acquire one of those 1-ton van based '70s Class C motorhomes, an old grain truck, and do a cab/front chassis swap. To me towing a Falcon dinghy style behind a motor home makes better sense than towing a full-size camper behind a big truck or SUV.
You may want to double check that pushing the choke knob in actually fully opens the choke. A few months ago I discovered that the choke on my Falcon was sticking about one quarter closed once I pushed it in, and it wrought havoc with my fuel economy and spark plugs for a while.
