Probably seven years ago I purchased a heavy cotton twill sport coat from J.C. Penny (St. John’s Bay). It has worn very well and the weight and drape is great.
I don’t say it’s period, but I always thought a full suit made in the material would look great and wear well. Better than the...
I have kind of a formula for when I get a '54. It should work for a ‘49 to '54 anything and result in a really nice, drive-anywhere car:
1. Original engine mounted to an overdrive automatic.
2. Aftermarket cruise control unit; maybe power steering and/or brakes.
3. Disc brakes with a...
I have three sixties cars, remember? This isn't just about buying something bigger, but about something more in line with my personal sense of style and nostalgia, which all syncs up about 1954.
You're talking about what I recently heard termed "the Great Brougham Epoch", and while I find...
Enh, the '58 GM lineup was a weak spot in the decade, but not for the chrome. Their proportions are pretty tank like.
I don't hate them, but I will never seek one out either.
I love them! Among the MoPars in the style you show, I've always thought a '59 Dodge Royal Lancer would be an awesome car to own, but I'm looking for something more sedate to drive on a daily basis.
I like those cars, but for myself I want something less flashy. I really like the '49 to '54 styling period because it has a good balance of postwar optimism and practicality. As the '50s wore on, things got a little more euphoric and while those are fun cars, they don't strike me as...
Wow, that's gorgeous - especially the green. What a wonderful road trip that would be, too - fly to Maine, buy a Packard, and drive back.
Unfortunately, I just checked my available funds and if the bidding goes over $350, I'm out of luck.
That is a great pic, Tom. Reminds me of good times wrenching with my dad.
Speaking of Dodges, I just found a 1954 Dodge Royal on Craigslist last night. I think it would make an awesome driver:
I always thought if I rode a motorcycle, I'd need one of those to keep in my pocket (helmet hair, y'know). I'd skip the eagle, though, as I wouldn't want it to resemble a uniform cap so much. Although I like the winged propeller cap device that cadets wore.
Great looking piece.
