    Terms Which Have Disappeared

That's very interesting, both because I haven't heard it in the States and also because your profile indicates that you are fairly young, whereas it is a phrase I associate (in London and probably England as a whole) with the older generation.

    Military 'woolly pully' sweaters

I have received a 20% discount voucher from OKW - as I am sure have several others on this thread! As yet I haven't decided how to spend it, partly because I already have so many of the available WPs and partly because it is hard to think about sweaters (even WPs) at this time of year - except...

    Terms Which Have Disappeared

"Sugar" A few days ago Crooner Radio played Frank Sinatra's "When I Take My Sugar To Tea". I associate "sugar" as a term of endearment with America (it never caught on this side of the Pond) and the era of black and white movies. Am I right in thinking that it is no longer used in the States...

    Terms Which Have Disappeared

"It's a crying shame." ... This is an English phrase I very rarely hear these days: I don't know if it is familiar to North Americans as I can't recall hearing it in the US or Canada. I was reminded of it last week when one of the tabloid newspapers ran 'Crying Shame' as a headline, a...

    Military 'woolly pully' sweaters

I have a roll neck Navy WP from OKW - they offered to put epaulettes on the shoulder patches for me which I really like. They're a nice bunch of chaps.

... and I am wearing one of their crew neck Navy Was at the moment.

    Military 'woolly pully' sweaters

Yes - I have bought so many WPs from OKW and publicised it so far and wide that I am thinking of asking them to pay me a commission.

I have been away for a few days and will return to this thread early in the week.

    Military 'woolly pully' sweaters

I have been wearing these sweaters since the 1970s and have never had the problem with itching. However I usually wear them over a long-sleeved shirt or T-shirt. The advice about a gentle wash is good I think. I assume from your post that this is your first Woolly Pully. May I ask which colour...

    Military 'woolly pully' sweaters

That’s interesting. I have had Bottle Green in the past but now only have Moss Green. The difference is very slight - I do notice that my Bottle Green Guernsey is a slightly darker shade than my Moss Green WP. It might be worth suggesting to OKW that they produce a Bottle Green version again...

    Military 'woolly pully' sweaters

In haste now: longer reply to follow. The Moss Green v-neck WPS at Outdoor Knitwear, with epaulettes (& pen pocket ) is a virtual facsimile of the old RUC sweater! There is really, I think, almost no difference in the shades of green. I have worn that colour (crew and v-necked) and been asked...

    Fishermen's sweaters site

Not the WPs but ‘civilian’ shooting/country pursuit sweaters, many of them vaguely inspired by the WP.

    Military 'woolly pully' sweaters

Yes, I agree; I have quite often worn a v-neck Commando sweater (hereafter WP for ‘Woolly Pully’) with a Tattersall shirt and/or Tweed jacket. The vast majority of my WPs are crew neck and that has always been the case. Like you I enjoy wearing submariner sweaters and I also have a large...

Actually I’m a bit envious as I can never get enough cold weather. It’s dry, clear and frosty here - which is my all-time favourite weather and so I can’t complain! Good WP weather of course: Navy crew neck today.

Love the cuffs. Even bigger than mine.

    Military 'woolly pully' sweaters

... Not compulsory of course (my last post)! The turn-back cuffs are one of the best features of the WP, along with the ribbed wool and the patches.

Your boss has good taste. The photo was taken a couple of days ago. I’m wearing my Dark Grey Mix WP today.
