The Mechanic sweater is very like The US Army Corps of Engineers WW2/Korean War sweater I have, supplied by Eastman Leather, except that my Eastman version is 100% wool rather than cotton. It’s a great sweater but I don’t wear it as often as the conventional Woolly Pullies.
I’ve heard very nice...
I have been able until very recently to wear WPs early in the morning and late at night. Summer is hellish and next week looks as if it's going to be an inner circle of Hell. ... Bring on the 'season of mists and mellow fruitfulness' (Keats): I can't wait - I even dream about frost!

They're a Norfolk-based company (Norfolk, UK that is, not Virginia). Very good products. I had one of their Arans (what could be more Celtic?) for years until I grew out of it and I still have one of their Shetlands which I bought a number of years ago. I like...
Yes, I agree with you about that. Last week and the week before were so hot and sticky that it was hard to think about sweaters. Now that we’re halfway through July, autumn/fall seems almost within reach (thank goodness). It’s still going to be hot and probably humid quite often for the next few...
Mmm... It looks very nice, but quite expensive for what it is. It’s also a strange time to launch a sweater when it’s hot and sticky and sweater weather seems far away! I’ll think about it - and look forward to autumn.
I’m obviously going to have to watch this movie again. But looking at the other two chaps it is fairly clear that they are civilians. (The sweater worn by The Third Man in the photo is again identical to a Black Sheep Knitwear sweater - but one I still have and still fits me!)
All this is...
Marvellous movie and that includes the sweaters - and Duffel Coat. Thanks Mr Fading Fast for reminding us of this.
Re. the middle photo: the front sweater is a standard Submariners’/Air Force; I’ve had one of these (bought from Silverman’s) for more years than I can remember. The middle...
The cuffs are quite long on the 1945, which is in many ways a good feature. However the conventional or modern WP’s turn back cuffs are a distinctive and in my view elegant feature. The 1945’s wool is coarser than the standard WP, making it more like a Guernsey (or other type of fisherman’s...
Thanks! I am going to buy the olive green version of the 1945 as well, but I shall wait until autumn. What do you think about the cuffs as compared to the traditional WP?
These images (above) have come out sideways for some reason. But they will I hope give some impression of the 1945 WP.
I like it very much in terms of fit, as I think I have said, and of course the historical association. On balance I prefer the cuffs on the more conventional WP.
