I don't have any concerns getting any of my westerns drenched. The felt bodies for them are such a different grade of firmness from dress weight bodies.

Leather shrinks when water evaporates taking the oils in its pores with it. Just using water to re-saturate isn't going to replenish those needed oils.
Leather conditioner does that.
My outdoor hat is a beater Akubra Campdraft after I retired a beater Open Road. I had both moss & silverbelley Moose Rivers. My son trashed the SB & gave the moss to brother-in-law, brim just to narrow for me...Old MR seemed to be more in line with Open Roads than new ones....look forward to...
When shaping an open crown hat, I slip a paper clip over the band ribbon & line it up with my nose in a mirror so I can make sure I align the pinch up with my face. Yep, most of us are off-center in more ways than one....

Wet fur felt will tend to revert to its initial form = the cone.
The shellac will get lose but the fur fibers will get tighter until reaching a "dead felt" state.

BTW The Campdraft is 2 7/8... a touch over 2 3/4.....
Stretching wonks out the brim flanging but usually acceptable for just 1 size or less. After that, it looks to out of shape. Reblocking to go up sizes typically eats brim width....
