I wear them because it's the thing to do, but I also agree with you. They look like cheap plastic, they get out of shape quickly and look wrinkled, and you can't really repair scruffs and scrapes.
They also look like what my kid sisters wore on Easter in the 50's when they were little.
I've...
If the economy continues to be bad and competition for jobs becomes worse I actually believe we'll see a return to suits in the white collar workplace. Despite the relaxed dress codes today wearing a suit to an interview can be the needed edge over the competition. If managers see wearing...
I'm sure there are any number of factors at work in both successful and failed marriages. I'm also not sure what general rules can be gleaned from it.
I can pretty well point to positive factors that I believe contribute to my 39 year marriage, but some of those very same factors would not...
One of the biggest factors I've seen over the years contributing to a lot of the discussed behavior has to do with real or perceived "safety nets". If you were raised during times where you'd starve if you didn't work and you knew it was up to you then you tended towards keeping your nose to...
My wife and I have two (no longer) kids. Rather than have any rules about dating as such we had a very hard and fast rule against our kids driving with other teens in the car or riding with other teens. Since they couldn't have any passengers or be passengers they didn't really date unless...
Just about everything and anything you can name contributes to the way kids today are, whenever today is. There is no one cause. And there will be no one solution, presuming a "solution" is even possible. All you can do is raise your own kids to the best of your own abilities and beliefs...
I do have a couple of used hats that were described as either never worn or lightly used that I've been ok with. Other than that I will not wear any used clothing. I couldn't even bring myself to keep/wear any clothing items that belonged to my own father.
When I was a junior and a senior in high school (60's) I drove a school bus over about a 15 mile route down dirt roads. All the school bus drivers were students. I don't believe there were any school bus accidents in the county during that period. Today we have "adult" school bus drivers and...
I remember Creomulsion cough syrup when I was a kid. What the creosote was supposed to do is a matter for speculation, but it sure tasted like medicine. I think it first hit the market in the 1920's.
Apologies for the near hijacking.
I agree with what people said regarding the shoes and cummerbund. If you really do want a vest and temperature is a consideration then I might suggest a backless vest without lapels.
:offtopic:Warning.
I just bought a new tuxedo a month back as I'd lost enough weight that my other one was hanging off me. In the process I had to have the jacket's sleeves shortened and had a major disagreement with my tailor over how long those sleeves should be. He held that the sleeves...
Besides the practicality of no cuffs that others mentioned, it also depends on your build. The further you get from tall and slim, as in short and dumpy, the less cuffs are flattering.
I'll have to admit that I do get a kick out of situations where putting on a costume is involved. My motto then is, "Anything worth doing is worth overdoing." My daughter talked my wife and I into going to Dragon*Con last year and we went in full steampunk mode. It was a real kick being in...
