I am not the OP but I have handled a lot of G-1's, possibly near 100 jackets over 15 years of buying and selling.
The grain is too uniform and pebbles are to too defined to be a natural grain.
Pressed Cow Hide on my 1975 Brill Bros. G-1
Real Goat will have variance in the pebble size and...
I have seen many pressed Cow G-1's and this hide matches. The spec changed very early in 1971. January 17th. This company was making contract jackets in 1970 leading up to the new specs in 71. They could have used new spec materials. I have seen this on other G-1's. I had a star Sportswear C...
It looks Mil spec. It looks like possibly a Brill Bros. jacket. They held some contracts during the 1970's. I have one and it is nearly identical.
The collar is synthetic and the hide is cowhide with added goat grain. These are very tough jackets and will last a lifetime but take a while to...
Fantastic find! A few of us Reproduction Manufacturers are feverishly documenting all the details to reproduce this historic jacket. Before now, we only had limited pictures to work off of. Now we have the actual jacket!
Quite a few new details have surfaced already including a unique rivet...
"At the end of the day."
Annoying to me because everyone seems to be saying it in the media, on TV, Radio, etc recently. It has almost become a knee jerk reaction it seems. A brainless utterance that follows along with the herd.
Be thoughtful, be unique for gods sake!
Some PC phrases really...
This is much more than bad luck. This is bad leather! This jacket should have never been made, as the sample of the leather from the tanner would have been easily identifiable as a leather with a painted on finish, that will either rub off or peel.
It almost looks like it is Nubuck that was...
Sure Talon may make their cheaper modern zips in China, but I believe that the vintage stuff is made in the USA. Some Japanese zipper companies actually use vintage reproduction Talon Pullers from the USA. The China made Talon vintage zippers are counterfeit and the tapes are usually synthetic...
Aww I miss living in Hawaii!
For me, most of the time it is a long sleeve t shirt but depends on the jacket. I like to have something over my arms if the liner is Rayon or similar material. Otherwise my arms seem to get sticky inside the sleeves. Especially at the bend opposite the elbow...
Thanks! I am excited about this new jacket model. This Full Aniline Steer is a beautiful hide. We also have this hide in black, as well as a very nice Semi-Aniline Russet. This model will be available on the website for purchase very soon in sizes 36-48.
Yes there was the one 1950's G-1 on the deck worn by a torpedo pilot with the light collar. In the ready room, I recall spotting a possible Ralph Edwards 1960's G-1. There were a few real fur jackets sprinkled in. Again, I believe they were all real G-1's. Not Reproductions.
Just saw the movie. The G-1's are mostly modern day contract jackets. One pilot has one that looks like a L.W. Foster 1950's G-1. There are no M-422 jackets in the film that I saw, Repro or original.
Dick Best, and Adm Nimitz are both wearing modern day G-1 contract jackets. They have synthetic...
