Vintage Car Thread - Discussion and Parts Requests

Yes, that sounds exactly what happened to the Rambler shortly after I got it. The engine torqued over in the mounts and dumped the bell crank out of the bracket, disconnecting the clutch pedal (which then flopped around uselessly) from the clutch fork. Hopefully everything can be reconnected...

HeyMoe, I'm afraid I'm having a hard time envisioning your problem. The clutch pedal is flopping around and not returning to the full-up position without you pulling it up with your toe? But it will still disengage the clutch if pushed in? Sounds like perhaps you lost a return spring...

If you can live with a sedan rather than a convertible, they're really quite affordable, too.

Said the restorer to the hot rodder. ;) Actually, if this were a '51 I'd be really interested in the Studillac conversion, as those cars were already set up to accommodate the Stude V8, which is similar. The '50 Champ, it seems, is a far more primitive creature that only willingly accommodates...

I wonder how it compares with my flathead Rambler.

Those are Falcon parts, although the '62-'65 Nova patch at the bottom looks like it might fit the Rambler.

Hence why I'm trying to sell my Camaro. I'm just not a muscle car / pony car guy. I like older stuff.

The only problem with it is there isn't one in the engine bay - just the Champion six. The V8 wasn't available until 1951 and then it was only in the Commander and the Land Cruiser. I figure if you're going to go V8, go all the way. As far as the LT-1 goes, I'm pretty well convinced that's...

I was told they weren't reproduced. I hope it's the case. That's for the next guy, anyway. I'm selling this once my Falcon is done.

Had a fellow offer to trade me this '50 Studebaker Champion and some cash for my '68 Camaro convertible. We're thinking about going for it. Anyone have any experience with the '47-'52 Champions?

The exact point I make to everyone who says to me "I'll bet you wish you were going to that Lambrecht auction, dontcha?"

Ouch. Of course, at that price, could you afford to enjoy the car if you owned it today? Buy a '62 Biscayne and a 396, built a hot rod for the street. It's not much of an investment, but could be just as fun as racing the 409 Bel Air.

I have an absolutely mint one, but it's never been fired and I don't want to be the one who starts. I wish I could afford one for plinking.

The 409 won't wrap, it'll come right into the passenger compartment. My dad knew two guys who died on the same tree in nearly identical 1965 Biscaynes: The first one went too fast around a curve and the second guy died showing his girlfriend what had happened to the first, about a week later.

Oooh, ouch. I built that model as a kid (AMT '62 Bel Air 409 bubbletop), and even back then they were unobtainable. Sometime let me tell you about how my '68 Camaro almost got a 425 hp / 409. :)
