Has anyone seen a Golden Era leather jacket made from Horween CXL FQHH or Steer

Really, I didn't think goat ran quite that heavy. You must have got a particularly heavy one. I've got an AL black goat roadster which has also not fully broken in, I don't wear leather jackets that much where I live now. It's more like 2.5 oz I should think, about the same as an EL M422 I used...

New Aero Siblings - Dustbowl and Wool Half Belt

Two lovely looking jackets and I like the wool HB particularly. I've been tempted to get one but I can't justify buying another jacket. I live in the countryside and I spend most of the time I'm outdoors in waterproofs and wellies.

Has anyone seen a Golden Era leather jacket made from Horween CXL FQHH or Steer

Tried not to make a habit of it but it things happen particularly when other road users seem oblivious to bikes sometimes. They can look right at you and still drive out in front of you. A friend of mine from years ago was notorious for stepping off other people's bikes. He hated being on...

New Pike Bros N-1 Deck Jacket

Both nice jackets and good fit too. Not a good time of year around now to keep the excess weight off.

Has anyone seen a Golden Era leather jacket made from Horween CXL FQHH or Steer

I think that the idea that you need very thick leather to protect you if you drop a road bike is a bit OTT. I haven't owned a bike now for a couple of decades but when I used to ride a lot in the sixties and seventies I mostly used the same jacket, a Lewis Leathers Corsair. That seemed pretty...

What kind of Flightjacket is this . . . A2/G1 without flap pockets...

It looks like a fairly common design from the forties and fifties with piping around the pockets. Montgomery made a lot like it as did others. I've got one similar to that but with a shearling lining. Aero had a similar one on their sale page too and it may still be there. A civilian...

Aero customer service-- can't be beat!

This place was recommended by Holly when she was asked that here. http://www.maplehurstguesthouse.co.uk/

Has anyone seen a Golden Era leather jacket made from Horween CXL FQHH or Steer

I don't think you could say the same for the real modern equivalent jackets which are bought by people in the street now. The fashion jackets. Those old jackets are a lot better made than most of them.

Has anyone seen a Golden Era leather jacket made from Horween CXL FQHH or Steer

Yes and I think it has to be said that the original jackets and their modern high end near repros are very different beasts. I wrote above about an old forties US jacket I have which I had to do some work on and how it seemed to be fairly utilitarian in the way it was made. But they were work...

Has anyone seen a Golden Era leather jacket made from Horween CXL FQHH or Steer

I don't think it's come up like this but it has been alluded to in various threads here I think. Quite a few people have commented on how old HH jackets are not as thick and heavy as modern CXL ones, including me I have to say. I never thought that Aero jackets were authentic in that regard...

Has anyone seen a Golden Era leather jacket made from Horween CXL FQHH or Steer

I think that may be the key. In the eighties and nineties the interest in heavy leather for jackets really took off. Before then drape was more of an issue and most jackets even bike jackets were not made of very heavy hide. So an enterprising company seeing which way the wind was blowing...

    My New Alexander Leathers Jacket.

No worries Plumb. I Don't think you've hijacked this thread. Threads are born and then have a life of their own, independent of the OP. It could have gone on to turn into a thread about alien abduction or feminist comedians for all I care. I just don't like the way certain disciples of jacket...

Has anyone seen a Golden Era leather jacket made from Horween CXL FQHH or Steer

I've had a few old jackets in my time too. US, French, British, and German. Of the forties and fifties US jackets I've owned and handled none were CXL hide. I have a forties Montgomery jacket now which I had to basically take apart to re stitch and I could see the fairly utilitarian way it was...

    How should a B3 fit?

I think aircrew wore a lot under them. It was bloody cold in winter at bombing height over Germany. RAF aircrew wore sweaters and their short issue jackets under theirs. I've got a Cirrus B3 copy and wear a light sweater when it's cold and I'm going into a local town. But when it's really cold...

    My New Alexander Leathers Jacket.

I posted further up in my reply to your first ejaculation into the thread that I would imagine it's because there is a limited supply and they just can't produce enough. If that changes in the future and they had more then they'd supply them. They have no issue with AL as far as I can see and...

I was asked about the stitching so uploaded some close ups above. Thanks for the nice comments about the jacket.

    My New Alexander Leathers Jacket.

I did try to upload some better pics from my computer but hit an upload limit. This is about as high resolution as I can upload. I think it shows the stitching a bit better. I was toying with going a bit redder but with this colour hide I think this is more restrained. BTW that Goodwear is...

    My New Alexander Leathers Jacket.

Horween's site is a bit spread out and unlinked, but there is info on the processes there if you hunt around. CXL is chrome and vegetable tanned it seems, and hand dyed finished. The CT is straight chrome tanned. It's shiny and a bit plasticy compared to CXL. As to HH versus Steer, it's the...

Black longrider in goatskin from Alexander Leathers

Looks good Jingo. You made a good choice in going with a specialist maker in the end. That black goat is really very nice stuff. Did you have to wait long then? I got mine in four weeks which is pretty fast compared to most places.
