Did some rudimentary research on the ratio of horses to mules in the US. As I have never seen a mule leather label I assume mule was legally labled as horse. A ball park figure gives about a 25% mule to 75% horse ratio pre 1940 with peak horse and mule population of about 26 million around 1925...
The Aero Russet Jerky Horsehide looks pretty authentic as used on their A2's. Can't tell much difference between the leather of my Aero A2 Repro and original Dubow A2 except for 70 plus years of wear.
For something different but with classic vintage style. There are plenty of NOS Seagull watches from the 70's and 80's available. Get ones with the ST5 movement. These were the best watches coming out of China at the time and not trash. Hand made with 19 or 29 jewel movements and stainless steel...
I have a lot of American made clothes. Unless made by artisan makers like GW and others the quality of industrial made clothes is now a notch or two below Chinese made at same price/quality levels. "American Made"is now a torch for flag wavers only to carry sadly. The good old days of proudly...
Myna Loy carved a menacing career as a villain before she became A list. She was a serial killer in 13 Women and had unusual tastes for fullfilling sexual gratification in THE MASK OF FU MANCHU. She liked to torture her lovers.
For me it's a no brainer. Kenneth Widmerpool played by Simon Russell Beale in English period series A DANCE TO THE MUSIC OF TIME 1997. Perhaps more evil but not as odious is his wife Pamela Flitton played by Miranda Richardson. The most perfect made in Hell match.
Well done and it looks great on you. I got Steve to put a light weight lining on mine as our winters are fairly mild. Feels quite light and not much different to wearing an A-2, just slightly warmer. I find the look not as hardcore as many believe when seen actually worn.
I have four jackets with the Japanese Waldes repro grommet zippers which are identical copies of early Talons I believe. Used on Good Wear, Norshor and many high end Japanese jackets like Joe McCoy's etc. These are finicky as expected for an old design but appear very well made, look good and I...
Here in Melbourne, I usually wear leather on colder windy days which can also occur occasionally in summer. To me leather is more of evening wear for the most. Even in winter I can sometimes get around in just a T shirt but I like to wear a jacket nearly always when getting out at night. For...
Agree with this. I would not go for a custom cold order hide. Best to have personally handled and had something else made with it and knew how it worked with the style of jacket I wanted. Too risky with limited knowledge
Hi and welcome to The Fedora Lounge. I use Red Wings boot oil on mine. Works well and about once a year. I also have had several pairs of Red Wings boots similar in style to these. The Harold's uppers are miles better. The Red Wings elastic wears out quickly and the leather cracks up easily if...
Seen a few of Billy West's shorts. Would easily fool many viewers they were seeing the real Chaplin. He later moved away from being a Chaplin impersonator. His shorts are very snappy and a few were quite excellent. Very hard to find these days. In the talkies he faded away and only had a few...
Been a couple of times to the Salvation Army shop in Smith St, Fitzroy recently here in Melbourne. Last time 3 weeks ago. Surprisingly they have some good vintage leather. A lot of older motorcycle jackets including a Schott Perfecto at a $180 and many other cool jackets as well. Many better...
Living here in Australia I see plenty of kangaroo hides for sale at markets etc. All are hair on hide complete and some are enormous. Never seen any leather for sale that is finished for leather goods. I guess they are sold to manufacturers only.
