Very clearly recognisable as RN. TW Kempton is the military-industrial wing of Outdoor Knitwear, also known as OK or OKW. www.outdoorknitwear.com There’s a lot about them over on the ‘Woolly Pully’ thread!

It makes me think of photos/postcards of French sailors from the early C20th.

Yes, I have a natural brown Shetland from them - very nice sweater! There’s another one called The Smuggler, I think, which I wanted to get but they didn’t have it in my size. ... It was a semi-roll neck with a rough quality to the wool (I like a bit of rough occasionally - I’m talking about...

    Military 'woolly pully' sweaters

Yes, those are my staples. I had my first OD Green back in the 70s. I also have Air Force Blue, Moss Green, Black, Dark Grey Mix, Peat Brown, Purple Mix ... Etc. The only time I have worn a WP ‘professionally’ was in the Corps at the private boys’ school I attended.

Hello Sailor!!! Where will your voyage take you this time? Not cool enough yet for Sub roll necks but I have occasionally been wearing Woolly Pullies (see the thread on this, to which I have just replied).

I too am ready for some cool weather; we haven’t had your extremes, just a few nasty little heatwaves earlier in the summer. But we’re gradually coming out of what I consider to be the most toxic season and into the Fall, which is great. I am beginning to feel energised again and am even...

    Military 'woolly pully' sweaters

I have been wearing mine occasionally in the mornings and evenings over the past week or so - mainly Navy and Army! It’s great to be moving into Autumn/Fall!

    Norwegian Wool Sweaters

I shall have to look up this programme. ... I'm looking forward to sweater weather again. The Rehearsal for Hell (i.e. Summer) has started suddenly. I hope it's a short one this year!

So trivial, yet it really ticks you off.

Any time of year is fine for me. I am still nostalgic for 1991, when I spent June-October working in Montevideo and missed the WHOLE summer. I left the U.K. at the end of spring and was back in time for the autumn leaves and crisp mornings. I look forward to being able to do that every year.

That’s great. I envy you!!! I love single digit Celsius - can’t get enough of it.

Time well spent I would say! It would take an equally long time with mine, I assure you.

This does remind me of parades in the Corps and being barked at by a drill instructor - similarly attired. It was good to have the experience for a few years of wearing a WP in an official capacity in addition to leisurewear.

    Military 'woolly pully' sweaters

Thank you for ‘hearing’ me over cancelling the hot season. ... I can never see why anyone would actually look forward to the sun beating down during the day and streaming in at night, to humidity, sweating and general yuckiness. And pollen! Give me autumn colours any day, with soft light and...

Above are a few snaps of the Moss Green WP for comparison (difficult I know) with the RUC sweater.

    Military 'woolly pully' sweaters

Thank you for that Edward. I remember those RUC sweaters from the early to mid-80s. I was a teenager then and was going over to NI occasionally in the school holidays because I had family there. It was during that time when I started to wear the dark green version of the WP, which - as I said in...
