What pens are we carrying today?

Need some help finding a reliable repair person for a couple of old Sheaffer fountain pens. First, I have a Lifetime Balance that was a wet but tolerable writer. Thinking it could be tweaked to be a little less wet I sent it in to Faharney's and when it came back it was worse. I sent it back...

    Cowboy Boots

Three months later I can tell you these are thr most comfortable boots I have ever worn. Wish I had a reason to order a couple more pairs. Recommend highly.

Sedgley made sporterized rifles after WWI with left over actions. Really, the perfect 06 for "plinking" and hunting. Serious no-frills rifle fitted with a Lyman 48 that is capable of shooting off-hand as well as any rifle that I own. Like anything built on an 03 action, they have gotten...

Boy, I could wreak havoc with the neighborhood squirrels with that. Too much fun.

Love 1903A3's. Anyone who really wants to learn how to shoot should start with a 1903. Great rifles, fun to shoot and are generally capable of shooting better than the average person behind the trigger.

    Safari Express rifle pic thread

My 30-06 pre-64 70 is a great shooter. Feels good in hand, handles well, and shoots better than I can. I have a Leupold M8 4x mounted and I think it's the perfect amount of glass for a classic 06. I would really like to shoot it with the iron sights but the stock and sights really aren't...

    Safari Express rifle pic thread

Pretty hard to beat a pre-64 M70 in 30-06. If you want more of a classic express type rifle, look for a Sedgley (1903 action in 30-06) or a Griffin and Howe in 30-06 or 7x57. As much as I appreciate the power of the 375 H&H I don't think it's a practical caliber to hunt with, plink with or...

Beautiful VS Pecan by Art Fawcett

Sorry, should have been more clear; is it a 7-1/4, 7-1/2, etc? I don't have a tape handy so inches does not really help. Thanks.

Thanks Sarge. I was incredibly lucky to find that Hussey. I have been looking for about 3-years, watching all the shotgun sites in the US and the auctions in GB. Ironically this one was so close I was able to drive to beer the seller to pick it up. Without doubt this is the finest Hussey I have...

You could probably find a barrel is you did some digging but it's the Mauser action that counts. Mauser action, double-set triggers, in 30-06 isn't a bad rig. How does it shoot?

My latest acquisition, which I have been after for almost three years; an HJ Hussey Imperial Ejector, circa 1907. 12 bore, 28" barrels choked Cyl/IMod, gun weighs approx. 6-lbs, 6-ozs. The wood is Bastogne, probably 300-400 years old. The stock oval is engraved with a coat of arms and I am...

Help identifying a family crest from GB

Thanks, HH. That makes more sense. Most of the wear is on the 4th-6th letters. I am not familiar with Gilmour but I will dig into it. The shotgun, an HJ Hussey Imperial, is a "best" gun built in London. The family would have been pretty well off to have had the gun built.

Help identifying a family crest from GB

Thanks. That's approximately what I came up with which is one reason I am interested in some historical context.

Help identifying a family crest from GB

Recently I acquired a very fine shotgun made in London around 1907. At the toe of the stock there is a brass oval typically used for the owners initials. The oval on this gun is engraved with what appears to be a family crest or coat of arms. The engraving on the banner is worn but I believe it...

    Cowboy Boots

I checked every Rio dealer and Boots & More was the only one carrying this exact combination. When I ordered them I was told to expect 90-120 days, probably closer to 90. I believe that Rio's quotes up to 6-months for a custom order. Regardless, I have them and am very happy to have them.

    Cowboy Boots

Thanks. I ordered 12D, same as my Lucchese, Frye and Redwing boot. They seem a little tight across the top, but not too bad. Bottoms are buffed elephant, which my cowboy friends assure me will never wear out. The stitching on the upper is remarkable - so detailed and so well executed. Kills...

As I said, I am mot a big fan of "restoring" guns but there was no other option for this gun. Anyone thinking about restoring a gun should keep in mind that refinishing a gun that is in good working order may actually decrease the value. Personally I don't want to take a 100+ year old gun and...

One of my favorite American doubles has always been the LCS Grade 5 because of the engraved setters and pointers and the attention to detail. LC Smith made approximately 441 Grade 5's in 12 ga (and considerably fewer in 16 and 20). Every one was made to order and made by hand at a cost of...
