I never liked the perfecto type because of the belt scratching my paint job on my gas tank.
They don't look right without the belt & orphaned loops, IMHO.

I have had good results flattening out a brim on ironing board with a steam iron & a handkerchief.
Guess if you had something close to the shape that you could iron against, that might work for you....
