I don't think anyone here would say a bad thing about that hat with a hoody. I think that is a fantastic look and would make a fedora appealing to some who never thought a hat was to be worn by anyone who isn't an "old man".

American has been through some turmoil and has moved a few times. They are now pretty close to me in Bowie TX. I looked at some of their felt hats at a booth at a horse show and they were decent hats but they were priced even with Resistol and Stetson and they seemed a tick off the finish...
I have another take on this. I think labor is a HUGE factor. There are some modern felts that seem to me to be the equal of the vintage felts and they are not necessarily 100% beaver. Resistol has made a fur blend hat called the Balck Gold that is a 20X hat. 20X is far from their highest grade...
AH-HAH! I now know where all those brand new vintage hats come from! You guys in the secret hat society are sharing a newly found cache of hat seeds. I never knew they grew on those stems. You can see that Mr P's more southerly location has yielded a hat blossom that is not fully dormant as...
I've had it darken grosgrain bands. Place loose masking tape over band, spray stiffener onto hat and remove masking tape immediately before any adhesive from tape is affected by the stiffener and possibly gets on grosgrain.
I have a Lion 100% beaver that looks to be of the same manufacture with the same script for the 100% beaver text and the same size tag. A discussion here on hat brands had Lion Hats being a brand of Beaver Brand hats.
I have handled a couple of their 100X hats and I think they struck me as being more comparable to 30X Stetson or Resistol hats. I believe they are made in Stephenville TX but the origin of their felt hat bodies used is a mystery to me.
