I just picked up a 1945 copy of the Smyth Report. I thought it would make interesting summer reading, LOL.

    Opinions on small SUVs

No Jeeps in your list? I love my 2008 Jeep Liberty! I am the original owner and it now has just over 100,000 miles w/nary a problem. Unfortunately, they aren't in production anymore but there is still the Patriot, or the new Renegade. That said, I am coveting the Subaru Forester in Jasmine Green.

    The Young Fogey Phenomenon

That's just the sort of guy I would have been interested in when I was at university in the early 1980s. Unfortunately, I don't recall seeing any of this type at my American university. :)

    Help me date this find!

The Bates Disciplined Fabric - Made to Behave - ad campaign seems to have started in 1950. I can find ads/mentions with the "Made to Behave" slogan up until 1956. After that, it seems the slogan was dropped. But this info is based on a very quick search so it may not be completely accurate...

    The Cap Faction

Not quite the golden era, I know. I'm thinking 1970s on this one, can someone please confirm? I believe the union label was used until 1978. A cool cap!

    What Are You Reading

I just finished I Capture the Castle by Dodie Smith, the author of 101 Dalmatians. (ICTC is nothing like.) A very enjoyable read with a fascinating narrator.

    This or That

What I wish I'd do: Do my taxes early. What I actually do: Wait until the last minute. Neat color-coordinated Christmas tree decorations OR colorful jumble of family-made Christmas tree decorations?

    Food of the Fifties

I just came across this website and thought I'd share. Prolific 1950s cookbook author Ruth Chier Rosen sells new-old-stock copies of her books that have been in storage for decades. Some of the titles: "Have Cookbook Will Marry" circa 1957 "Pardon My Foie Gras" circa 1956 "A Guide to Pink...

Vintage Photos from Cunard at The Holidays.

Here is some circa 1956 Cunard ephemera my mother saved. She and my dad sailed on the Queen Elizabeth (QE I, not QE II) when emigrating from England to the USA (Dad emigrated from Poland to England right after WW2). My mother was 7 months pregnant with my oldest brother and remembers the...

    Signed Books

For American car buffs (or "Back to the Future" fans): My father was a design engineer at American Motors Corporation, which was bought by Chrysler in 1987. Dad was one of the lucky ones to be kept on by Chrysler and worked for them until his retirement in the late 1990s. Anyway, Dad often...

    Vintage Workwear

Hey, that was my auction, I was the seller! That buyer got a great deal. I came across that old post because I've just picked up another Finck's garment, shown below, and was once again googling Finck's. The jacket is not labeled at all. The button-fly trousers have the one Finck's label on the...

Can you help decipher this name?

Centinar is a possibility. Also Centines? But I can't find a serviceman with any names I try. I, too, thought the last bit was Ens for Ensign. Thanks for your reply :)

Can you help decipher this name?

I posted more photos of this WW2 US Navy bridge coat under the "Show Us Your Militaria" thread. Can I get suggestions re: the serviceman's name on this label? Thanks!

    Show us your Militaria

Hello again, everyone! May I have some help reading the name on this US Navy black heavy, thick wool bridge coat? It's dated 1942 but is in immaculate, like new condition. Were they generally black? (I thought they were navy blue.) Looks like "Ens" after the name so I assume he was an Ensign...

    Bush Jackets

Thank you, you've both offered information that I did not find. I must say that I am surprised at the lack of Ahamed Brothers clothing/gear on the secondary market... I've only come across a few pith helmets.
