I had a LONG conversation with Skip and Nick Horween about this .... and NEITHER of them HAD EVER HEARD OF "JERKY" HORSE. In fact, I was asked to give the Aero description. Their view was the more traditional tanners view re. quarters, sides, shells and splits ..... the word "Jerky" was a new...
ok .. the pics
1st The Back ...
The Front ...
The Side ...
I really like it .. it's extremely comfortable to wear and I could get a sweater underneath.
My Aero M422a had strange armholes which sort of meant that the chest always lookes a little pulled accross the...
The very one .. pics are coming, it's been chucking it down yesterday and today in the South East of Englandshire ( and I was gigging last night so didn't get a chance to get some done).
The cuffs are folded back on themselves ( not onto the leather ) sort of like what you did as a kid with...
My FIRST Bill Kelso ... just like Andrew's old one ... in great condition ( bit of cigarette smell but nothing that tried and tested techniques won't get rid of ).
Now ... most on here know me as a guy who HATES elastic cuffs and bottoms, but, I also have a bit of a soft spot for the looser...
Menlo was a sub brand of LS Co Edward ..... it would appear that it only had a short lifetinme @ 10 years or so. I've seen a number of different Menlo branded LS Co jackets, not all Cossack's ... but so few have labels still intact ISTR that Hellers Cafe have a couple and there are a few in the...
The Art Deco "Talon"zipper was available for jackets shoes and bags in the late 20's ..... There's even a brochure from the hookless fastener co (aka Talon) on EBay right now from 1929 depicting said zipper. The hookless fastener co (aka Talon) was formed in 1893 .... I get that you wouldn't...
JC Penny produced almost an exact copy of the Menklo Cossack up till the mid 1940's albeit from different hide and lined ........ jackets in the 1920's and 30's utilised the short ball and chain talon zipper as a pocket zipper ..... in fact they used this zipper design up till the mid 1950's...
That style of pocket zipper was a common feature on Simmons Bilt, Schott and Montgomery Ward jackets of the late 20's and early 30's ... in fact many civilian jackets and M/C jackets of this eary had only one zipper of this style on the pocket ... some had the old "art deco" Talon hookless...
If it's any consolation ....
I had similar issues with my Aero Californian and had 1" added at the bottom of the sleeve 1" longer than the original and the strap adjusted toward the wrist by 1" .... it looked fine, was a simple mod and sorted the sleeve issue.
Any good tailor should be able...
yup both the Menlo and the Simmons are unlined
the black one id lined in cotton drill.
oh .....
All 3 have side adjustment "V" shaped gussets
Both the Menlo and the Simmons have double button cuffs
I'm sure there are more ... IF we were slaves to detail ! :D
The Scans ( asssuming I'm not breaking any kind of copywrite lwas :) )
1st the LSCo Menlo Cossack
Next the inspiration for the AL "Simmonds Bilt" (the black one)
things to note .... if we were slaves to detail .........
1. The pockets on the Menlo Cossack ( side entry not...
I forgot Simmons Bilt only produced one jacket in almost 30 years of production ...... post the pic of the jacket the Alexanders "Simmons Bilt" was based on ........ that might help, I'll give you a clue ( I asked ... you clearly just assumed)
Rin Tanaka - Motorcycle Jackets a Century of...
That's right ..... I stand corrected ....... although it was an incorrect description for a "cutaway" collar or what Rin Tanaka describes as a "small round collar" as per the original Simmons Bilt which was subtly different to the LSCo Menlo Cossack on which the Aeromarine is based.
They are...
I know Alexanders have just recieved an order of Kudu ... but it is mighty thick stuff ( like the heavy Chrome Tanned Steer which Aero had of old) 4-5oz ...... REALLY lovely looking with that reddish almost cordovan hue to the finish .... but too tough for my taste. I can't do 2 year jacket...
I don't fancy a jacket made out of "Willy Nilly" .... sounds like the excess material from a circumcision ........... you could have a Highwayman in it which if you rubbed it would become a Barnstormer.
Eye thenk yew ... I'm here all week :)
