Hi Carter,
I apologize that you could not get through. The last two months were crazy for us with mail order and internet sales. Sometimes I am the only one who can answer questions because everyone else is taking orders or helping customers who come into the store. We arent just mail order...
Biltmore is the most accomadating hat factory today. They will make whatever we need whether it be two or twenty of an item. The problem is money. They have none and the only way to buy from them is to buy the felt beforeahnd. Then the hats are made and we pay for the labor. It works forthe...
Dumbjaw, that an old hat. Probably dated from the 1940's jugding by the style of the hat. I dont think people realize just how many hats stores there were years ago. Where we are located in Willimsburg Brooklyn ,at one time during the 1950's there were 7 hats stores within a three block radius...
Hi Tinpan,
The hat is just an older model . It was probably made last year before Bailey changed the logos to their present version. The Duke is a specialy made hat just for that store. I know who you are talking about and they are 100% legit.

The Stetson 100's were mostly made during the 1950's until the mid 1960's. As time went by, the linnings were made cheaper and had less color in them.
I have a Stetson catalog somewhere in my colllection from the early 1950's that mentions the 5x, 7x, royal quality and nutria...
This hat was created by Stetson to compete with Biltmore's Beaver finish hat. It is a fur felt hat wit hthe hairs buffed in a way so as to give it a long hair finish. Hatco sent me one. It feels like a very stiff hat. TheBiltmore is better.

The easiest way to tell the difference between the USA and Italian hats are that the American ones did not say made in Italy on the leather band. It was left out. Also the "feel" of the hat was different. The USA ones were much stiffer than the Italian ones. I still have a few left in stock...
The Como 2 is made in Italy by Borsalino . It has abosutely nothing to do with the garbage that Bollman made 15 years ago .
i sometimes see the American made Borsalino hats on Ebay being sold for the Italian versions. It makes my blood boil...
Bolthead, that is one nice hat! Now I know who got it . It thought it was Dinerman. I think that hat dates back to the early 1950's. If it was my size , I would have paid 200.00 for it!

I dont think the Barbisio store is there anymore. They closed all of their company stores a few years ago.
They had a beautiful shop in the Galleria in Milan for many years .

We had the Cervo salesman in our store two weeks ago. He showed us some very interesting hats. The problem honestly is how many people will buy them? Most people who want a better production hat will buy a Borsalino . Those who want a decent felt hat at a modest price will buy a Stetson or a...
Lord Best , may I ask where you purchased your hat from? I would like to know who made them snce Christys is no longer being made in England.

Hi Bolthead,
Enjoy your trip to Italy. As some one who goes there two to three times a year , I can tell you that you will have a good time . The dollar is much better than it was against the Euro six months ago . You might still find stores that will have ther merchendise on sale after the...
A lot of stores here in the US have stopped carrying Akubras because the distributor (David Morgan)decided to sell them himself. As a distributor, he pays less than a retailer and can offer lower prices.
Thats an unfair advantage that caused a few stores to drop the line...
The place is called Capas Hats. They will prepack a case of 36 hat boxes. It doesnt pay to send less than that. The shipping costs today are crazy. If anyone lives in NYC, you can come down to us and buy as many boxes as you need.

There was a store called Modern Hatters in Newark NJ for many years. They sold seconds and old hats and were also renovators. The store clsoed a few years ago . they had over 25,00 vintage hats when they closed.
