Personally I'd go with the Aero. I wouldn't even think about starting a 1000 mile trip in gear that wasn't comfortable. Sounds like a recipe for a miserable ride.

Hey Bruce,
I really like mine, it's like a long, moderately heavy, cotton shirt. We had a cool evening here in Ontario last night, so I wore it walking the dog. It's perfect for cool summer evenings, spring and fall afternoons.
It's certainly for casual occasions, after all it's meant to be...
Mine is a custom half belt of about the same age as repos. The dryer helps a bit, not really worth the effort. The best result I got was from laying it on the floor and rolling it up. Roll the sleaves up from the cuff all the way to the shoulder, then roll the body both length and width wise. It...
Lots of other animals produce wool, Llama, Alpaca, but none of them are used for hat felt that I know of. I'm not sure when the X's really began to loose all meaning, but I can show you two Stetson Open Roads in my collection, a 3X from the '50s and a 4X from the '70s and the 3X is far nicer...
I saw a Schott G1 at a local antique/flee market a a couple years ago, it was an absolute piece of junk, thin, pLastic feeling, I wouldn't even pay the $100 they were asking for it. I ended up with a RE that needed new knits for $69, new knits and good to go. It's not very collectable, but a...
The knits are new, they'll stretch out a bit and it'll hang just fine. The big question is how does it feel to you when you're wearing it? As Smithy said, they fit everyone a bit different. People need to lighten up! If you like it and it feels good on you, go with it!

I had an identical one a few years ago, also in brown, it was a bit too tight so I sold it. It had the button in liner. The guy at the antique shop I bought it from said it was 1940's, but I have no real proof of that. I have seen pictures of supposed Lend Lease coats like this on Russian...
Last fall was a banner flying season. Flew in a 1929 "barnstormer" bi-plane at the Old Rhineback Aerodrome, in NY, then the following weekend in the B-17 "Yankee Lady" that was visiting our area. A great couple of weeks!

I had the same mod done to my half belt. It ads a small amount of extra flexibility, and I really like the detail. Some people want the back to be simple, in size 44 I thought it needed a little extra character. I would definitely do it again.

I would be surprised to see a size 50 G&B measure 51" around the chest. I've owned two Expos, one goat one lamb, both in 44, and they measured approximately 50" chest, I would expect a size 50 to be around 55-56". I don't have them any more, so I can't double check.
Let us know the actual...
Stearmen,
Wait!!!! don't take those stickers off your new vehicle!!!!
Some restorer years down the road will be hunting high and low for the correct sticker to take that truck back to 100% original.

Too cold for the Aero D-1 last night, pulled out the B-9 parka with insulated bibs under that. Jackie the Jack Russel didn't seem to mind at all, she just had on her light jacket.

I have the "glttens" as you call them, pretty good, but not "dog walking in the middle of Canadian winter" warm. I wear leather, fleece lined mitts, similar to what Dinerman linked to, from a small leather shop in Ontario, Baiton's Old Mill. They don't have a website (the other Old Mill in...
Another Canadian here. The D-1 and B-6 should be made of the same weight fleece, therefore should be about the same for warmth. The B-6 is a neater fitting jacket, and definitely the better looking IMO.
I wear an Aero D-1 most of the winter here in Southern Ontario, and it's comfortable with a...
Talos,
I was once like you, I had an "Irvin" style sheepskin bomber and a lambskin "A-2'sh" jacket and I was as happy as can be. Then I found these forums and those jackets are long gone. They have been replaced with Aero's and Good Wear's. I'm still as happy as can be, but my bank account is...
Hi Talos,
What zhz means by "real B3" is the that the black one you referenced and the Schott one aren't even close! Real B3's are brown or russet (rusty brown), no hand warmer pockets, the straps on the collar are not thin sewn together garment leather, they're made from a single piece of...
