Big J:
Friends of mine told me that if you are in China and want to break the ice with people there, just bring up the Flying Tigers. The Chinese love that unit!
One thing about the Japanese, Germans and the end of the war everyone has to keep in mind is summed up in some dialogue in the movie...
Since the anniversary of the Doolittle Raid is 18 April, here's an interesting article about what happened to the Chinese after they helped the Airmen:

I read a report about the Red Tails that said depending on how you might want look at it, they were either one of the best or one of the worst squadrons in the USAAF.
Either way, they were no better or worse then the all white squadrons.
I heard a lecture from a gent that was a 1LT with the USMC. He was in the third wave heading into Iwo Jima.
First of all, he kidded that if he knew there were 10000+ machine gun emplacements, he'd have gone on sick call.
He said it was cold, so he had on a skivvy tshirt, a Penn State...
I read something along those lines once before. Some German town was schwacked, people are hungry, GIs have food, money, etc and love souvenirs. Local industry makes insignia for the Wehrmacht and people probably put two and two together and it added up to "One Assault badge for three cans of spam."
I sent an email to G&B about their B-3 and asked for more photos other than what was on the site.
Got a reply today. Sent the same pic on their website. :)
I'd google "leather" or "leather repairs" or something along those lines for the city/town you live in. There might be someone close that deals with it.
One of the older loadmasters in my squadron had a father in the US Army back in the 1930s and thru WW2.
One of the shooting disciplines he was taught was something called, "Snap shooting". He said it was shooting from horseback.
How's the fit of an Aero B-6 compared to a ELC B-6?
I tried an ELC B-6 and it was just too trim at the "darts" in the back. Plus, that leather was REALLY stiff.
My wife said it looked good on me unzip. When it was zipped up, it looked like a "woman's jacket" since it was fitted in the back.
A good book to check out is "Masters of the Air" about the 8th AF. I think this is the book that Hanks/Spielberg are basing their AAF miniseries on (at least one of the books).
And he put the flare under his arm, unlatched the table, and then continued to the pilots window.
Yeah, being on fire must have slowed him down, but I think what really slowed him down were his gigantic testicles.
I've seen flares fail to eject from the flare bucket and burn in place outside...
