The new Open Crown fedoras that I have bought from Hat-Co to bash with Royal Quality on hatband are a soft fine felt that steam but are still pliable. Very nice hats.
I bought a XXXX Buffalo a while back. Great looking hat with 1" ribbon band and bound edge brim but I don't have the slightes clue as to what it is made of.:):)
I do know that the Resistol's that I bought from Hat-Co 30+ years ago (when it was Resistol Hat Outlet) which had 10X Beaver printed on hatband were thicker.
I am talking Resistol and Stetson. I don't know what level or amount of Beaver felt is in their hats. All we have to go on is the hatband that rates the level by X's. The fedora's at Hat-Co which are seconds they just put a generic band that reads Royal Quality whatever that means.:):)
I'm a 7 1/2 and I have both 7 3/8 and 7 1/2 stetsons that fit. If it is a little too large I just cut fold up pieces of paper towels to stick under band. As far as shrinkage unless it is a wool blend it won't happen with beaver fur.
I like wearing my western hats old style and my fedora's funky style with the brim turned up so I have no expectations for the general public to understand. :):)
I saw that video on YT a whi
Stetson still make the West Bound hat. Dam good looking hat.

I will add this, if you like a little stiffer brim and crown just spray the hat down good with Bickmore Hat Stiffener and let it dry overnight. Steam it and give it a nice brushing and the felt will still be soft as before but hold shape.
I bought 3 new Royal Quality Stetson fedoras this summer from Hat-Co. The fur felt is medium thickness and soft. They will hold shape after steaming but still be pliable. As far as fedoras go they still make the best hats IMO.
