I noticed the Acorn hatband Don wears is somewhere in between Gold and Dirty Yellow.:):) The Acorn band I bought from Miller Hats is Yellow. I might have to drag it through the mud first.:):)
The band I bought from Miller.
I have been wanting to make a copy of his hat for a while. I have looked at a bunch of videos on YT and got plenty of pics so i'm ready to go. He was one of my favorites in the 70's. Great voice and humble personality. Ordered the yellow Calvery Acorn hat band from Miller Hats website today.
Funny I was researching Don Williams hat and found this thread. I'm gonna start with a Open Crown Silverbelly Stetson with a ribbon band on it. I will add the Confederate tassle band over the ribbon. I will cut the brim down to 3" and curl the sides back pointing into crown. I'am going to leave...
I agree. I'm anal about my nice hats too. I'm retired and don't get dirty anymore and I keep all my fur felts in hat boxes because of the dust in Texas. When it is raining I wear wool felt or straw beaters. I might need to brush them occasionally but never re-block unless I want to change the...
If I have to board a plane to go on vacation I take one hat on my head. I don't even know what a packable crush hat is. I wouldn't put one of my babies through that.;);)
That looks like a nice one. There is no styling necessary. You can either leave the brim snapped up like I like, or snap it down to get that old school private detective look.
There might be better quality hats out there but I haven't found any. I look through all the wool hats to find the fur felt. A nice luxurious soft stetson fur felt just feels like home on your head.:):)
They are super nice folks. They know all the hatophiles, we keep coming in looking for the gems. The only problem is i'm running out of room for stetson boxes.:):):)
This is one of my best finds this summer from them. Royal quality Stetson silverbelly fedora. Nice high 5" crown with a beautiful ribbon band. All it needed was cleaning. I paid $37 for it.
Here is a nice Resistol 4X dress hat they did for me this summer. They cut the 4" brim down to 2.5" and replaced the cheap hat band with a nice ribbon and bow band. I think I paid $45 for it. It will go well with a nice Black or Grey suit this winter.
It's a Stetson/Resistol outlet store next to the hat factories in Garland, Tx. They sell hats with small blemishes for 50% to 75% off. Most of the hats the eye can't see any blemishes.
I have bought a bunch of hats from them over the years. I like going in during the week in the morning when they aren't busy. I use the same employee every time to clean and block my hats. If you take care of them they will take care of you.;);)
