    The BORSALINO BROTHERHOOD

Here is a recent pickup. I was hoping this would be a 7 3/8 but it is snug on me and closer to a 7 1/4 :-(. Any ideas of the age? Thanks, Bill

OTHER THAN eBAY Hats: Victories, Defeats, Gripes & Items of Interest

    Two pack of 10X Resistols — one vintage 7 3/8, one modern 7 1/2.

OTHER THAN eBAY Hats: Victories, Defeats, Gripes & Items of Interest

I will call this a victory. Six months ago I purchased a vintage Rand’s with a missing liner. I put a modern Rand’s liner in it but it didn’t feel quite right. Recently I found a Stetson 60’s 3X hat that had a vintage Rand’s liner and I made the swap. The Rand looks good. The Stetson is in...

    The Resistol Roundup

These turned out great! Could you show a pic of your hat block and whatever tools you used to reshape this hat? I have a similar project I’m working on and I am just starting to learn and collect tools. Thanks! Bill

What Hat Are You Wearing Today ?

Thanks Brent! This hat blends well on this river especially on steely grey cloudy days.

What Hat Are You Wearing Today ?

Looks peaceful but Grizzly and Moose are in the area. Not a place to relax with a sugary drink :). I carry bear spray on this river.

What Hat Are You Wearing Today ?

Yes, I’m very fortunate to live just a few miles from this river — one of the best for fly fishing in Montana.

Dating Your Hat (A Place to Discuss the Age of Your Vintage Hat)

Thanks for the reply Louis! My hat seems to be a bit of an oddball with the 60s/70s date tag but has a trolley cord and the older 5X roundel. Also, it has the appearance of an Open Road but has no such markings. I have not been able to find any other hats like it. Bill

    The Resistol Roundup

Brent, thanks for the tip and the pic! Do you know if it is rare to have a “Designed by Harry Rolnick for …” a specific individual (e.g., FM Craig on my hat)? Searching around I‘ve only been able to find two other instances of these “custom“ individualized hats but I suspect they are more...

OTHER THAN eBAY Hats: Victories, Defeats, Gripes & Items of Interest

Happy with the latest results — not perfect but a big step forward. I’ll probably stick with the original hat band but it’s interesting to see how a different one totally changes the vibe of the hat. Now I need to learn how to sew the sweatband back in :). Thanks again to everyone who...

And the hat represented your Alma Mater’s mascot as well? ;) Great look!

OTHER THAN eBAY Hats: Victories, Defeats, Gripes & Items of Interest

Thanks for the reply and information! All the feedback I’ve gotten here and on the campaign hat thread points to this likely being a 30s hat with the unsewn back of the sweatband maybe pushing it a bit earlier. Dating certainly isn’t an exact science! I’m happy to be able to say this is...

OTHER THAN eBAY Hats: Victories, Defeats, Gripes & Items of Interest

Bummer, I can’t really make out the lot number. I sorta see “LOT 4X57” but confidence is low. It looks like it got double stamped perhaps because the ink was low that day ;).

OTHER THAN eBAY Hats: Victories, Defeats, Gripes & Items of Interest

Thank you for the helpful information! I posted the hat to the campaign hat thread as well and I received information that characteristics specific to this style of hat put it as an NCO hat likely from 1920 to 1942. Based on your info it could narrow the range down to the 20s. I found the...

Thanks for the info, Brent! Do you think this is an early 50s hat?
