Thanks Brent — your replies are always very helpful and much appreciated.
I’m still learning how to navigate this site and how to access its treasure trove of information. I now know to “search by title only” and just maybe you’ll find exactly what you need :). Thanks for the link!
These...
I picked up a pair of mystery hats that I’m still gathering information on. It seems there aren’t a lot of Royal Deluxe Stetsonians around.
The listing for these had no interior shots or size information. I took a guess as to the sizes based on how they fit the model in the listing. I...
Thanks for your reply!
I’ve read in another thread on this site that the red liners existed from the mid 50’s to mid 60’s. Do you know much more about them?
Harry Rolnick was one of the founders of Resistol and he retired in the early 1960s according to this article...
This mystery hat described as “Brown Resistol Western Hat Sz 7 1/4” turned into a pleasant surprise for both fit and quality. I purchased it as a two hat bundle and the other hat was my primary target as it was well photographed and in my size. The only close up label shown in the listing of...
How likely is it to find a donor original liner? I like the idea of honoring the hat’s history but also want to protect the inside. I wouldn’t do anything to attach the liner so it would be easy to remove to get back to the original bare state. I guess I could get a cheap liner for...
Thanks for the information!
The gentleman to whom the hat was made lived from 1931-2001 so mid to late 80’s seems quite possible. Unfortunately, there is no writing on the inside of the sweatband. I showed a few pics of the hat to the folks at the Rand shop but they couldn’t narrow the date...
Thanks for the feedback Brent! I debated whether to clean the silver but I’m glad I did.
Do you think a liner would improve or take away from the hat? I noticed that some of the older Rand’s don’t have liners but not sure if that is by design or if they just get lost/removed over time. The...
I’m a novice in fixing up hats but wanted to find a project hat to give it a try. I found this Rand’s hat that seemed like a good project without a huge loss if I bungled the job.
I’m happy with the way it turned out. I’m still debating whether to invest in a new liner — I can buy one from...
My first post here is going to be a sad defeat (but a bit humorous in hindsight). I’d been shopping for a nice fishing hat and this one fit the bill and was in my size. The seller had a whole cubic foot to work with but I guess this was the box closest on hand. Thankfully my return request was...
Did you see this one? It is green size large but not sure about the model or vintage.

Just a quick follow up to let everyone know that I was able to list and sell the hat. It went to a nice gentleman in Texas. Listed for $250 and sold for $225 with the buyer paying for shipping.
Now I’m off to find a replacement . Thanks again!
If I’m reading this correctly, the Open Road quality levels are:
100, $100
7X, $50
25, $25
Sovereign, $20
3X, $15
Royal Deluxe, $13
Royal, $11
That is very helpful! Thanks!
Thanks for the informative responses everyone! Pricing this hat will be a challenge but at least I’m armed with some great relevant information. I am relieved to hear that a mismatch of the box label to the hat is not uncommon. The auction listing for my hat said the box was original with...
