That design caught my eye as well. These hats are still in production and haven't hit stores yet (I follow one of Stetson's designers on instagram and she posted some vids from the factory the other day of the fall line hats).
Interesting that they didn't put a felt designation in the...
It's the leather sweatband. It's not a very high grade. Certainly some people's sweat is more acidic than others and that has an effect on the rate of shrinkage, as does wear, but many Akubra hats end up shrinking some.
Archived version of hatsdirect.com...
If we want to quibble about the 100% certainty of my initial "will shrink up..." fair enough.
But again, I don't know why this is controversial today...
(emphasis added)
As I said, if it's really grinding your gears, we'll go with "will probably shrink." I'm not aiming to falsify your statement(s), but this is beyond my experience with Akubra. I can't even believe I have to defend this point. It's even right on the Akubra website...
Look, if it's really grinding your gears, I'll amend my statement from "will shrink up" to "has a high probability of shrinking."
I don't know why mentioning the shrinking Akubra sweatband is now a controversial statement today as opposed to every other time it comes up.....
Your experience is outside of the norm.
My Fed IV absolutely shrunk on me, it's one of the main reasons why I sold it. Not comfortable to wear anymore. I pulled out all the sizing tape I had put in when I got it.
we can't really tell much from one pic of the exterior. All the identifying marks would be On the inside. Moreover, this looks like a modern outdoors-ish kind of hat which is not exactly the main focus here.
It doesn't match anything from the current Stetson line up, that's about all I've got.
Unless there's model name on the sweat, there's not really much to "identify." We can really only speculate/guess about hats with no markings.
That having been said, there is a model called the Wanderer that this resembles. It had a similar ribbon to the Playboy, but with a bound edge.
See...
Yah that's what I thought at first too, but if you look in the description it has the little burgundy icon which in the Fall 19 catalog denotes royal deluxe felt, whereas the blue icon represents royal quality. I then double checked the Fall 18 catalog where it is still called the "Royal Open...
Well, Deckard did say they were ditching the RD OR on his Instagram, but they are still in the Fall 19 catalog.
Soo.... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
If these don't show back up at retailers soon, perhaps they were axed and the catalog is in error.
I saw some of the RD ones at Heritage hats in Phoenix a few...
Yah I think I have to grab one of those from JJ, I was looking at them last night (browser tab still open, lol).
Going on a trip next month and it would be nice to not have to baby my Panama OR.
I did have a chuckle upon seeing the "authentic x's" imprint on some of these (others have the...
Be this dude.
The whole period dress thing is not for me. I choose jeans over every other type of pants. But this guy has the right attitude. Does it fulfil your desire about how you want to dress? Then do it!
Well, Herbert Johnson is making a small line of Indy hats and bespoke orders. They're also advertising refurbishment services. They recently moved into their own hat workshop and are taking sales online and out of the Picadilly storefront. Hopefully this facebook link works...
I forget where I saw it, but I definitely remember either watching a short video or reading an article on the Christy's factory and seeing a Lock die mark for sweatbands.
