A sin? Not quite, but he maybe shouldn't expect a warm welcome if he goes online to a car restoration forum to ask for tips about how to tear his car apart.
Re: vintage mods
It's a discussion that's been had. Careful observers might pick up that certain posters don't appear in conversion threads, and likewise that the conversions mostly appear in the conversions thread (aside from "What hat are you wearing today"). A deeper read of the lounge and...
Well, ok, I'm just calling it an Austral for lack of a better identifier. It may or may not "officially" be an Austral as there's no model name on the sweat.
The 1922 date is based on the leather band it came with:
Putting the crown down can, over time, distort the shape of the crown.
The "rule" about not putting the brim down is mostly applicable to western hats where putting the brim down might affect the curve.
I don't see why there would be any risk in using those ring like stands that hat shops use...
Well...tell me about the Lot numbers again?
5066 on my 1922 Austral
5895 on my Nutria Boss Raw Edge...which I had pegged as older of the two...but maybe not?
P.S. Here are some pictures of Frazer & Co

I've got one that was attacked by moths that I wear, yours will be fine! I almost wore it today after reading this thread this morning.
That's the BOP die mark....I don't know that we've ever seen one on the lounge.
We've had these discussions on the lounge before, with the Open Road for...
Does it have a BOP imprint? Stetson made several models that resembled the BOP, most notably the Austral. Is that a no. 1 Quality die on the sweat too? That was the bottom of the Stetson quality scale (though, to be sure, a very nice hat with quality well exceeding today's hats).
Putting a...
I was pondering this some more and thought also that the combination of browns as pictured above might come off better (to my eye) if there were a bound edge.
I also agree that a two tone ribbon would look great too.
I do like the original band, I'm not 100% sold on the combo in the recreation.
Maybe switching the bottom ribbon to a more burgundy tone, or taking the mid and light browns and pairing with a cream ribbon on top? That way there's a pop of contrast in there as opposed to a gradient/ombre look.
Nice hat! The sweatbands of that era were not the best quality that Stetson ever used, as I'm sure you can see. But those are very nice proportions and the hat has a beautiful used patina. The Nutria quality felt should have lots of life left in it. Although a sweatband replacement will diminish...
Playboy. This one came with this very aloof and asymmetrical crease that I've mostly tried to do nothing to. Like the tag from the Stetson Slant "the nonchalance is blocked in."
P.S. has anyone ever seen one of those Slants in the wild? I would love to see what the thing actually looked like.
