Great work Jared! I’m always inspired by people taking the hat making initiative. One of these days I will find the time to make one myself. Too bad about that block, I don’t know much about 3D printing but I wonder if more material can be added to straighten out the sides. Might be worth asking...
I’ve always liked the look of this box. I just bought one it has a black mystery hat in it. Just a bad photo and the sellers description was NIB. Fingers crossed.
I have searched a bit and there doesn't seem to be much info for dating stetson boxes. Anyone have a rough idea when this style of box was in production? I have seen examples from roughly 1930 - 1960 that came in this type of box, although I have no idea if the boxes matched the hats.
This one is on it's way. I couldn't pass up another Canadian No 1 Quality. This one apparently belonged to the Mayor of Calgary Don Mackay. He was mayor between 1949 - 1959 so if the provenance is true it's certainly a 50's hat. I'm betting it was made in the Brockville plant in Ontario. More...
Looks like it could be our favourite ebay seller who scored.

Haha, Thanks Bob. I actually made and sold a round of bolos at a yearly art show that I usually participate in showcasing some of my furniture pieces. The larger pieces rarely sell but having something on hand you can sell for under $50 always does well and covers the cost of participating in...
Hope everyone is safe and well. Today is one of my most recently acquired hats. Not the most special piece but a great hat for daily wear that doesn’t have to be babied. Stetson 3X 3x6 with a single cord ribbon. Also grabbed a photo of my spalted maple bolo I made last week.
Now you got me second guessing again. You think I should go with the 4"? Curl it to 3 1/2"? The 4" brim open crown hat has a 5 3/4 open crown vs 5 1/2 on the 3 1/2 brim. Unfortunately since we need a hat for the little guy I have to order something that's in stock.
In my time collecting I have realized I mostly like westerns and 3” is now kind of my lower limit. I even find my OR’s can feel a bit small to me and prefer a 3x6. Some of my favourite hats to wear have 3 1/2” brims
I know I saw this exact pic and couldn’t find it a second time. Thanks for sharing. I’m gonna go with the 3 1/2 as I think it’s more versatile in case I want to remove the curl at some point. Wouldn’t mind the extra 1/4” of crown but 5 1/2 will do.
So I had a good read through this thread and I'm going to be ordering a set of Sunbody's for the family. My wife wants one and we need a hat for the little guy.
I'm going to be putting mine in an oreana crease and putting a pencil curl on the brim - I'm torn between getting the 4" with a 1/2"...
It's exciting that we can now get FEPSA felt easily here in North America. I'm interested to hear your thoughts on it vs. Winchester, and especially interested if the dress weight bodies are big enough for larger brim and crown sizes. I still owe you that message I think I have a couple of hats...
