O me of little faith. I've posted these here before with the seller's pictures because I did not think I'd ever see them in reality. After close to five months in limbo however, they appeared at the post-office yesterday (had to bail them out). And not a beep out of them about where the hell they've been. Prodigals can get away with anything.

Borsalino Ipersca Turchese. Size 7 with the blind stitched overwelt brim at 6cm and tghe crown at 10,5 at the center dent. Very soft felt that was resisting to behave for the pictures. Wears like a dream though. Very lovely blue colour close to a petrol shade (or so I am told). Anyway after dancing a little jig here it is.

Beauty! Everyone likes an overcoming adversity story! I’m so glad that the hat arrived despite the crazy long delay.

First hat build. It is definitely cheating to start off with a pre-pounced FEPSA beaver body! Aside from skipping the pouncing, I didn't have to 'fight' the body at all with the blocking. Being my first, obviously there is much room for improvement. The sweat is seated better on one side than the other and the joining cuts could be cleaner. But overall, nothing is catastrophically wrong with it.

The Randal Alan 51 block has more taper than I was expecting based on my vintage 51 blocked Junior Cowboy. So that's a little disappointing. Before I put the gus crease in, I was playing around and some of the creases looked like a dead ringer for an Optimo hat. It will work fine for the telescope crease I'm planning for hat #2, but it's definitely not a look I want to have for reblocking/refurbishment. Not to say that I wouldn't consider another of his blocks, because the equipment does the work, but his interpretation of the 51 block is not my favorite.

Cypress felt, vintage "green belly" ribbon from Art's stock. 5 3/4" open crown , 3 1/4" brim. NOS kimono silk liner that I also made. Tip of the hat to Tim at Pure Beaver Hat Supply for the body and sweatband, and Rick of Phoenix Hats for the great hand tools. Art for the ribbon and the custom band block. Also collectively to many Loungers like Terry and Brad Bowers who have shared their hat building knowledge so that I knew what to do in the first place.

Great work Jared! I’m always inspired by people taking the hat making initiative. One of these days I will find the time to make one myself. Too bad about that block, I don’t know much about 3D printing but I wonder if more material can be added to straighten out the sides. Might be worth asking about.

Thanks much for the kind comments and likes. It was a fun process, despite the fact the I stabbed my finger once or a dozen times with the needles. I've already put the nutria/rabbit felt On the block because I've seen how the telescope will come out, but I do want a straighter sided block for the other FEPSA body I have.

I'd say that's a success, Jared! Love the understated liner. The shallow flange works very well.

Hey Jared you did a fantastic job! Keep up the work. I though the "x" pattern for sewing the sweatband loop together was an interesting touch. Did you punch your initials in the sweatband with a cummins initial machine?

While technically not a new hat to me... I never did post this hat here before. I decided for my first post back after my Mom’s unexpected passing last week I would go with this hat she bought me for my birthday a few years back. As was normally the case she would ask me what I wanted for my birthday and I would generally say “oh I don’t know” or “I don’t need anything” but this particular time I said I had been looking at this hat on eBay. A few days later this beauty showed up at my door.

Biltmore Millennium Collection - Navy Blue
Made in Canada
5 inch crown as shaped
1 5/8 ribbon
3 inch brim with 1/4 bound edge

This was one of the first hats that when I opened the box, I was floored at how beautiful it was. It was also though my first wider brimmed hat at 3 inches and I could not get a feel for how to wear it... or what to do with the brim. As a result it went unworn and stays in its box... only to take it out and admire it from time to time. I had considered moving it along. Obviously now I am glad I did not do that and this one will stay with me as a treasured memory from my mom.

Knox Superfine Homburg - Chocolate Brown
5 3/4 Crown
2 inch Copper/brown grosgrain Ribbon
2 1/2 brim front/back - 2 1/4 sides - 5/8 binding

When @BobHufford tipped me off to this hat, from just an image of it’s dusty top, he said “This Might be something” I will say with full certainty I believe it is to me anyhow. And I will also give it a little story to go along with it.

The very last conversation I had with my mom before she passed last week... was a simple text from her asking what do you want for your birthday. To which I replied. “Hmm.. I don’t know” I had no idea she was even sick or that this would be our last “conversation” This hat had kind been in limbo with somewhat delayed shipping for a couple weeks... And I really had no idea what to expect I would find. On the day she passed... the day after my birthday... the box With this hat arrived at my door. Now being that my mother is forever known for being late... but NEVER missing anything. I have decided this is the last birthday present from my mom. And WOW is it beautiful! Thank you Mom. I love it! And thank you Bob for playing a part in making this happen.

Fabulous hat, Joe. The colors and the wide brim make this one of my favorite style homburgs.

Moms continue to bless our lives long after they’re gone. This is a great tribute hat.

Absolutely fabulous hat, Joe. Styling, colours and proportions are spot on. Not an understated homburg, but they don't all have to be. Make sure to post it in the homburg nation thread as well.

Picked this one up last week, because it was staring me in the face for months on Ebay. Made an offer and it was accepted.
Mayser Spezial in grey. Size 56 with the brim at 6cm and the crown at 10,5cm at the center dent. It seemed to like not having side dents, so I left it this way. It appeared more a brown/grey kind of lupo colour in the auction pics, but it's a full grey. Steve is still working on the meaning of the quality designations for Mayser, but as a bit of information: it weighs 117 grams, which is quite lightweight for a homburg.
